Nothing would make a bigger splash than getting a former NFL head coach. It doesn't sound like Bohn is looking at NFL guys, but if we were to go that route who would you like to see?

Here are a few former HCs to get the conversation started. I have no idea if any of these guys would be interested in a college job.
Brian Billick (Still only 58. The guy won a Super Bowl. Why hasn't anyone given him another shot?)
Tom Cable
Jack Del Rio
John Gruden (Yeah, right. lol)
Marty Schottenheimer (Just kidding!)

Who else is out there? What about NFL coordinators who haven't been HCs yet?

What if we don't want an NFL head coach? I guess maybe I could live with Mike Tomlin

None. Saw it all go wrong with Al Groh at UVA, because he tried to run a college program like an NFL franchise. That doesn't work.

Didn't Bohn hire Cable as the HC is Idaho?

And Cable failed there.

Pass on Cable.

Not going to get Del Rio
Not going to get Gruden

You know who we should have hired was Mora Jr, instead we got the B4L crew giving us Embree.

Ugh. I am tired of watching the WCO/Pro style flounder in Boulder. GB began running it after the scandal to try and be competitive with the talent downturn brought on by recruiting restrictions. Embo ran it and it flopped again. Why in the world would you want to try a third time? NFL guys run the same basic stuff. It operates on mismatches and hypercomplicated decision trees for QB's, WR's, RB's and OL. It rarely works in CFB unless you have some FB savant like A. Luck or you have better talent at every position than your opponent like USC.

Plus an NFL coach is no guarantee of success. For every Pete Carroll, Jim Mora, there is a Bill Callahan, Charlie Weis.

Go get a CFB HC or Coordinator from a top program that has current tie ins to recruiting and quit effin' around in the No Fun League for their TE coaches and retreads.

Wasn't Embree basically an NFL coach? Especially with his staff? I'm more interested in successful college guys.

The only reason that I can see to hire an NFL coach is to try to save this recruiting class.

I know that Jack Del Rio has been talked about, and while I am intrigued by him, I agree with those who worry about the success of bringing an NFL guy to the college level - there have been more failures in that regard than successes, and if you think about it, most of those successes have been at places that have little trouble recruiting (Bama, U$C). We're kidding ourselves if we put ourselves in that category.

Plus, I would wonder if Del Rio might talk the Okie lite OC into coming here (I guess there's a family connection? At least that's what I was told by an Okie lite grad). Problem with that is, Luke Del Rio committed to Okie lite because of this guy. Luke Del Rio is, by accounts, twice the QB Cody was, but I don't want to touch that situation again with a 30-foot pole.

Stanford seems to be doing fine without Andrew Luck. At this point I don't care if we run the wishbone, the single wing or the run-and-shoot. I just want it to be coached competently.

Stanford has gone mostly spread to with Hogan. Hell, they were speread with Nunes early in the season. Occasionally they line up in the I and go man-rule blocking on people or run the zone, but mostly it's spread. I take it you haven't watched much of the Tree this year.

Total college junkie when we're at least decent. Too painful to watch any games when we're a laughing stock.

Just from the Donkeys: I like what Eric Studesville did as interim HC. Mike McCoy is going to get a lot of looks from NFL teams. I like both of those guys but it won't happen. Even if they wanted the job we can't wait for the end of the NFL season / playoffs to book a coach. We need one ASAP, imo.

I say we hire McDaniels just to hear Alfred's head explode on live radio.

I used to be a sports talk junkie. Now, I can't stand to listen to any of the insufferable blowhards we have in this town.

Jon Gruden would excite me. There is a greater chance of me hooking up with Kate Upton in the next ten minutes than him coming here.

I really don't want any part of NFL guys. It's a different game. If we really don't like MacIntyre or DeRuyter, pick a college coordinator. It worked out pretty well last time we did this.
