One good and one bad take away

First of all **** nu. Always great to beat them there. Finally we win one of these ****ing close ones with them. Eat a buffalo dick Tom.
Loved how the cu defense adjusted in the second half. Haven't seen that it years it seems. They made plays at the end of the game. Unfortunately they showed up with 2016 tackling form but that got a little better too.
Was not impressed with Chevs calls at all. 1 on 1. press ****ing coverage on our wr. Middle of the field open was open half the time because they were blitzing so much. I remember like 4-5 long bombs and three passes over the middle. Great throw and catch on the Tony Brown slant great to see that. Three big receivers with talent on the outside and we see five and two are to lil Mac... Played great, damn good ball player doesn't drop always blocking, love that kid always gives 100%. But we have other guys on our team who are big and tall for those back shoulder bombs. Winfree was criminally underused this game... **** not happy with Chev at all.

Montez didn't play his best but he had no help from the play calling plus he didn't commit a turnover so good job kid. I'm blaming 100% of that offense performance on coaching.... Will Sherman looked good.

Really glad the d turned it around the second half. Those guys showed some big balls. If they can tackle (way) better they might just supprise us how good they'd be.

Good. Win #19 vs cornholio and a new generation of Buffs fans have a favorite memory.

Bad. No idea who this man is and how much he might be donating to the program to bump the post-game handshake with Frost.

Good for me looks like Montez has no fear. He was huge in Eugene a couple years ago, and that 4th quarter throw with 90,000 fans screaming for their team was solid.

Bad for me was two fold. First, we still just look a step slow on the Dline. Not quite quick enough to win consistently on 1 on 1 situations. And so many almost plays in the backfield, but just one step two slow. Second was the predictable zone coverages. Too many open windows. But I think the second was based on being maybe a little vanilla since they didn't have any game film. Second half was much better defensively.

Bottom line is getting a road win in a hostile environment against a descent team when you make a lot of mistakes is a hallmark of a good team.

Amen brother. The no film hurt d more imo. Really disappointed in the o adjustments. Looked to me like they we're adjusting o line but this game was obvious we needed to establish the pass before the run and chev blew it

Good: Anyone notice how the o-line seemed to stabilize when Sherman went in? Then Moretti got some good game action. In my opinion they looked good and I'm excited about the future of the trenches.
Bad: not worried about the bad right now, I'm enjoying the hell out of this win!

I was at the game, and when Sherman came in, the line improved big time. Hard to say why because on guy shouldn’t change the whole unit. Maybe the other guys realized they needed to step the **** up down a starter.

CU capitalized on NU mistakes. I thought CU made some clutch plays when they needed it most. I was not impressed with Scott Frosts play calling or time management at all in the 4th qtr. Going for it on 4th down with 6 min in the game and a lead was beyond stupid. Clock management was atrocious, snapping the ball with 15 or more seconds every down, passing when all you needed was the clock to roll.... Luckily CU coach was equal to the task with some play calls. CU played good enough to win and I tip my hat to you for getting it done. Overall pleased with the effort, technique, improved play and coaching the NU staff has given the players, especially the line play on both sides. Can't really hang this one on the players.

Good luck, congrats on posting the W.

Good:
1. Win
2. Many close games during the HCMM era were lost because we beat ourselves. Penalties and stupid turnovers have been the bane of our existence (besides 2016). This game We were able to overcome the few penalties there were.l, and no turnovers.
3. Very tough mentally. There were several times when you get like The Nubs were going to blow it open, and we did a great job of hanging in there.
4. LANDMAN, SHENAULT, MONTEZ

Bad:
1. Play calling got pretty Lingrenesque in the second and third.
2. The trenches were a mess. O-Line is ****
3. I just don’t feel like we are seeing our best guys in the field enough. I think McMillan is a lot better than Evans. I think Ento and Brown should be playing more.
4. We pursued well but one v one tackling wasn’t nearly up to 2016 levels

Coaches got the win and so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on some of these things. In the end a very happy day!

Good:
- we won on the road in a tough location. All those toothless meth heads makes for a scary place to play
- this game woke up a passion for me for the Buffs that honestly had somewhat died sometime during the Hawkins/Embree eras
- adjustments between 1st & 2nd half. Been a long time since I can remember seeing something like I did today

Bad:
- Kinney injury
- P12 refs
- I'll be back around on this board more often if my job doesn't suck up all my time from me

The dude tonguing coach Mac is believed to be one Pasta Jay Elowsky (sp?).
He used to, and likely still does, feed the fb team.
I can appreciate his contribution to the program....but....
Happened to see him prominently strutting the sidelines at the csu game in his pimpish white suit, flowing hair, even ran on the field to pick up the tee giggling like a teen. Sorry to seem negative but older adults usually don't act like that. Oh well, keep feeding the wins, go Buffs.
Also a weird story from years back when the Ramsey family went through their challenges. John and Patsy Ramsey were hiding from the public at Pasta Jay's house, Reporter figures it out, is driving behind PJ, PJ stops his car, gets out and comes toward reporter brandishing a baseball bat.

We definitely needed quick passes all game yet we kept trying for home run balls or running up the middle. ****er, those weren’t working, even my 11 yr old son could see that.

But yes, we got some luck, made some plays, and didn’t kill ourselves - on the road, über hostile environment, no game film, (what I would consider) huge rival.

But damn it, Martinez and the DBs were WAY better than I expected. We better step the **** up!

Easy. That's Ashley Schaeffer, of Schaeffer BMW. Not sure about how he is tied to the program, though.

Great takes by everyone. The only thing I didn’t see mentioned was FG kicking. W T F was up w him?

Last year he was Money on almost every FG attempt. And yes, had he made the two attempts he missed yesterday, that could have decided the outcome a little earlier.

shoulda, coulda, woulda

Agreed. The shouldas go both ways...if their receiver didn’t drop a TD pass...that’s what makes CFB so exciting! Damn good game and great outcome.

I'm guessing Kinney was the regular holder, and with him out a change there may have had an effect on the misses.

TallB, you might be on to something. I'm not sure if indeed Kinney has been the holder, but could certainly point to a minor change that throws off timing on any longish kick.

Good take away(s): players making plays. Viska, Montez, and Landman stepping up to the task. The second half adjustments, and not melting down

Bad: seeing a sinkhole in the middle of the defense on the big runs and passes over the middle the first half. Some missed backfield TFL opportunities, and two consecutive missed FGs.

I thought that last TD Pass was a dead play, since some asshat in a nearby section blew a whistle, so I didn’t get to enjoy the play until I saw the Buffs section went crazy and the Buffs sideline jumping up and down.

I think there there was a gun involved by PJ during that Ramsay incident.

Great: A win vs the Fuskers! A P5 OOC road-win! Laviska, Landman.
Good: Mustafa, Montez (except for the 2nd quarter when he got real jumpy which was understandable to an extent), Gamboa, JayMac, Sherman, 2nd half defensive adjustments.
Bad: 1st half running game. Holding the edge. Tackling in open space (too many arm tackle attempts). O-line communication.

Kaiser-Tonz were getting abused (not sure what the official stats were about sacks and pressures given up, but it sure seemed like most of it was the left side); I've never seen Kaiser as a legit tackle athletically. When Sherman went in he held his own 1-one-1 but the middle of the line just didn't seem cohesive throughout the game (Pursell-Lynott especially seemed to have too many misreads that allowed up the middle pressure on Montez). How many snaps did Sherman end up with?

I'd like to see us not wear out Laviska so much. We have many other talented WR's to take the load and attention of the defense. Perfect game coming up to involve them more (esp. Winfree).

Against a power run team (with a mobile QB too) like the Nubs (not sure if we will face anymore of them this year maybe Stanford?) why don't we use a 4 DL alignment? (Antwine-Edwards-Mustafa-Lang). Rarely did we see Drew Lewis or Davion Taylor (aside from the FR) making plays on the edge or getting pressure so why not bring in a big guy to help with the run defense?

Good:

1. Defensive improvement in the second half.
2. Landman
3. Montez's decision making and accuracy
4. Mental toughness in spades

Bad:
1. Kinney getting hurt
2. Martinez showing we still have work to do with running QBs.
3. Nub fan whining, led by "Frosty".

Is the read option QB keep out of the O now?

Perhaps it’s just me and my drunken lack of memory but, I was sitting there on all of those scoreless drives in the middle of the game while they were going three and out wondering where the zone option read was.

Does the staff have so little faith in the backups that they are afraid to run Montez or was it just that the NU d-line was punking us so bad it wouldn’t have worked anyway?

CU has serious issues with the lines on both sides of the ball.
