Can't say I'm surprised at my bosses' bosses' bosses balking at major $ increase for SEC. Mizzou/A&M don't do much for broadcast network.

This adding of markets idea only matters for cable distribution folks. If CBS inventory stays the same, adding A&M/Mizzou does little.

So, they get the SEC network to cover the tier 2 stuff... but I'm guessing not tier 3 as the bigger schools make tons of $$ on that and I haven't heard a thing about the SEC combining it's tier 3 stuff.

Although the SEC still swings a big dick. CBS doesn't want to give that up. I expect this is more of a negotiation ploy than an actual attempt to limit increased payouts. Can you imagine the feeding frenzy if the SEC decided to open up negotiations for their media deal?

it would be huge, but seeing as CBS has their rights for the next 15 years the SEC ain't got much say in how much CBS is going to pay them. would not be surprised if the total payout for each school remains the same.

Alabama, LSU and Florida and somewhat Auburn (Tennessee if it ever gets going again) rule in football and Kentucky carries them in basketball....that won't change when new TV deal comes around....Mizzu and aTm are not the kind of players that will make a difference

Yep, only about 6 schools drive that bus: Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Florida and Southern Cal.

The situation today looks dramatically different than it did when Slive made the moves. If he had seen the potential instability in the ACC, I think he would have made a play for Florida State and Miami to grab a stranglehold on the entire state of Florida.

Both teams were a huge get for the SEC. MU gives 2 major midwest TV markets in St. Louis and KC. A&M is dripping with money, one of the Top 10 richest universities, with alot of it's money comming from NASA which is located close in Houston.

Any time I want to get angry, I think of the way Dan Hawkins approached his game plan for Missouri. Hawkins was a catastrophe as a head football coach, but his total ineptitude really showed every time his teams played Missiouri.

For the PAC:12 (I might be wrong)
tier 1 = national broadcast (ESPN/ABC) they have right to X games per year
tier 2 = national/regional broadcast (FOX/FX/Fox Sports Net) they have right to y games per year
tier 3 = regional broadcast (PAC-12 network) all other games

Adding major TV markets is great. If somebody is willing to pay you more $ for access to those markets. Which so far nobody is saying they will be. Which was the point of this thread.

The SEC isn't interested in expanding in states they're already in, which is why they didn't give FSU or Clemson any consideration this last expansion go-round. If anything UNC would've been their first ACC target to nab a good portion of the Charlotte and Raleigh markets, but UNC is too arrogant to leave the ACC even if it was a better deal for them financially. NC State would've been their 2nd target among ACC teams, they have a better football fanbase than UNC anyway.
