Less than they used to, that is.

My background. I grew up in the Eugene area and was raised a duck fan.

However, I hated them during the Chip Kelly era--like really hated them. But they seem better now. I'm not ready to say that I like the Ducks yet, but they're making it easier to root for the conference in the playoffs.

Changes I've noticed.

--Fewer public displays of thuggery. It was getting pretty out of control there for a while, and U of O was starting to look like the Florida State of the Pacific Northwest.

--As much as anybody, I enjoyed that we had a Heisman winner, and Oregon did not. However, you couldn't ask for a more likable representative then Mariotta.

--Less emphasis on "the O". That logo felt kind of draconian. The return to the traditional duck imagery leaves the impression that the team is taking itself a little less seriously, and having a little more fun.

--The uniforms are kind of cool, now. Insomuch as I give a **** what people wear to play football, the uniforms this year didn't nauseate me. I like the lighter green too.

--Helfrich seems like a decent human being.

Doesn't hurt that their fans are nice to us out of pity.

Once we start beating their asses again that will change.

All of your points are valid, Orr. Moreover (because snobbish verbosity seems to be rubbing off), since I'm still stranded on the East Coast, it helps to have a team from the Pac12 to root for. Sporting Buff gear locally lacks a certain gravitas, sadly.

In that vein, I hope Stanford curb-stomps Merryland in whatever bowl they're playing, and will be cheering on most teams from west of the Mississippi. God, these people are insufferable.

so, a secret orrrrrr-e-gon fan.

that explains the wake and bake posts?

i kid.

I hope you're not talking about me, neighbor.

Anything that helps us shift from this "SEC is the best" and anti-west coast bias is a good thing.

Here is to:
1) Ducks beating FSU
2) OSU beating Alabama
3) Ducks thumping OSU

I like Mariota, and he deserved the Heisman, but Oregon and all the Nike money is causing jealously.

When are our money people going to step up?

I don't like Oregon.

However, the other choices are an FSU program that is literally spinning out of control and apparently the university likes it that way. **** them.
OSU. **** Urb.
Bama. **** Saban and the hillbilly one toothed Bama fans, and **** all the 'S-E-C' maroons.

So, go Ducks.

Misleading thread title ....

I thought it was a fill in the blank type exercise:

Oregon annoys me less ________________________________________________.

- than spreading out my beach towel on a fire ant nest.
- than trying to fill out a health insurance application.
- than seeing every third car in Colorado with a ****ing red "N" sticker on it.

My bad.

I'm not saying that I like Oregon. I'm saying that they're more likable than they were a few years ago.

I like Helfrich. I like Mariota.

But my hatred for Altman and the way the basketball program is being run has mitigated any misguided good feelings I was developing for the Ducks on the football side.
