Oregon State-Sep. 28

Looks like we are not playing again until September 28th. Other threads are starting to discuss the value of the extra time for CU, but I am also trying to figure out if it puts in a better position to beat OSU specifically. They play Utah tomorrow which may not be an easy game for them, and then they play San Diego State on Sep. 21st.

Besides the advantage of rest and healing, I would also think we have an advantage over OSU in terms of having 4 game films from 2013 to watch instead of the 2 they have seen from us. Many on here have suggested we have been a bit vanilla in our schemes, maybe on purpose, to not show all our cards too early in the season.

We can now implement more wrinkles in private while we watch OSU's wrinkles in public.

Advantage CU and I am going to bet we win that game.

We sure have a good chance of it. Better than beating Fresno actually I would think (especially if the game had been played tomorrow). Riley's teams have a habit of starting off seasons slow (sometimes dismally) and then improving as the season goes on...so they should look better by the time we play them than they've looked so far...but I love having 2 weeks to scheme and prepare for them when they have 2 other teams to worry about in the interim...

Not sure I am comfortable with your usage of the word wrinkle.

With the exception of last year, Oregon State notoriously starts the year off slow and gets better as the season goes on. Two more games for Mike Riley to work the kinks out is huge.

This layoff does not offer an advantage to CU.

Now, if OSU continues to struggle, especially on defense or they get a rash of injuries, I may change my mind.

Good news is that I already have my ticket for the game.

Yes it is. Like you said Mike Riley has time to work out the kinks and that is a big deal. The game date didn't change, so whether the fresno state game was cancelled or not made no difference on whether Riley could work out the kinks. CU wasn't perfect either and they can work out the issues they have and focus on OSU. Its an advantage for sure.

Also Riley gets less video to work with. We get video of OSU against some quality opponents

Obviously I wasn't thinking clearly. Yes, Riley gets the same amount of time to work out issues.

I think there are things that have to be worked out at game speed (e.g. run blocking). We will not have a chance to work on anything at game speed between now and Oregon State.

We don't have a lot of injuries that will have a huge effect on the game. Players will be dealing with the aftermath of the flood. How many players were directly affected by this? Practice logistics will be messed up for a while.

In the end, I just don't see how this situation works out to the Buff's advantage but I'm just getting old and grumpy.

Don't see much of an advantage for either team really. Buffs need real-game experience before the PAC schedule starts. I don't know that OSU would feel that they need more than a week to prepare for CU right now.

I would think CU now spends some time implementing more of the playbook.
I agree-on both sides of the ball. I would expect us to have a handful of surprises, trick plays on offense, maybe a new RB in the mix (FYI, when does Ford come back?) new blitzing schemes on D, HOPEFULLY improved coverage teams.

First drive for CU

1st down: Flea-flicker
2nd down: Hook and ladder
3rd down: Pass to eligible receiver in Jack Harris
4th down: Fake-punt
