What a week we had, can this one beat it? Don’t think so but this weekend should still be a fun one for college football fans.
We have lots of teams trying to become bowl eligible and others pushing for a high profile bowl or even a shot at the playoff. Some others are just trying to keep their coach from getting fired.
The MAC starts us this week with games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Thursday also gives us North Carolina (4-5) at Pitt (6-3) Friday doesn’t get any better. Pretty dull slate until Saturday.
Saturday makes up for the weeknight games with multiple match-up featuring two top 25 teams. Highlight of the day should be Georgia (4) at Auburn (12.) Auburn would love to knock of a top 5 team and quiet some of those questioning the future of HC Gus Malzahn.
If you like defense don’t bother with (10) Oklahoma at (13) Baylor, neither team plays much. Baylor has lived the dream this year playing a soft as cake schedule to a 9-0 record. Oklahoma is probably going to pop that streak and Baylor can just go back to being one of the most immoral programs in the country.
(23) Navy probably doesn’t have five players on their roster that (16) Notre Dame would have bothered to recruit but they usually give the Irish a tougher battle than Notre Dame wants. Like with Baylor, Nebraska, and Penn State it’s never a completely bad day with Notre Dame loses.
Two teams that are much easier to like (in part because they regularly beat up on the cornfuskers) are (8) Minnesota playing at (20) Iowa. Can Minny keep their dream season going another week (or two since they have a bad Northwestern team next week before finishing with Wisconsin.
From highlights to high score we get the mismatch of the week. (2) Ohio State dropped in the polls despite winning last week 73-14 over Maryland. This week they get a worse (hard to believe) opponent in Rutgers (2-7) and they may be out to send a message. The spread is currently at 52 (not a typo) and is probably a TD short.
A game we wouldn’t mind seeing end with a similar spread has (15) Michigan hosting cross state rival Molester (oops Michigan) State (4-5.) in what may be Dantonio’s last season in East Lansing.
We also wouldn’t mind seeing (9) Pedo State lose again but Indiana (7-2) would need step way up to do that in Happy Valley.
If you are a fan of really bad football (other than fuskers style) keep an eye on UMass (1-9) at Northwestern (1-8.) Check close and you may be able to smell it from here. No that’s just another Nebraska cheerleader.
No matter what else happens we can all enjoy watching Frosty and his crumbling corn balls get mashed by visiting (14) Wisconsin. Cornhuskers this season getting smashed more often than their fans sisters down at the truck stop. Their message boards are going to be even more fun to follow as this one likely won’t be close.
PAC 12 leaders in action trying protect their position. (6) Oregon host Arizona (4-5) and (7) Utah welcomes in UCLA (4-5.) Fighting for bowl rankings USC (6-4) goes to Cal (5-4.)
Local action includes a big MWC rivalry with AFA (7-2) going to back from the dead CSU (4-5) who could actually end up in a bowl. Wyoming (6-3) has lost 2 of their last 4 wants to get back on track at a feisty Utah State (5-4) who is aiming for bowl qualification.
In FCS the UNC Bears (2-8) are playing out the streak going to difficult North Dakota (5-4.) If you get a chance to see it look for a UND fan in CU gear selling Fleshlights. Hi @FLounder .
Last week in small college football the top of the standing stayed the same with Mines remaining undefeated beating a tough Dixie State team and CSU Pueblo one game behind after burying Black Hills 58-0. This is the last week of the regular season with Mines going to Chadron State and Pueblo hosting Western.
