Other Games: Week 7

Very mediocre Temple up 50-33 on #10 Kansas, under 12:00 timeout.

8:41 to play, now 60-38 with the Owls heading to the FT line for 1.

As I was saying, you don't play a true road game over Xmas break.

Did I just see that Oklahoma was up 45-4? WTH is going on in college basketball this season? I've seen blowouts before, but CU only scoring 13 against Wyoming in a half, Harvard (who was ranked) scoring 8 in the first half last night, and Kansas getting blown out by 8-4 Temple. Weber State is not good, but they're not terrible either.

I think Oklahoma was pissed after the 1st half they played against Washington the last time out. Couple that with an opponent playing flat on Xmas break and we get what we had here.

TCU is ranked?

I knew the record is pretty from feeding on patsies, but what? They were 0-18 in Big XII play last season.

And if they're lucky, they'll go 5-13 this year.

Yup. What a freakin joke. TCU would lose to any real ranked squad by 20.

Associated Press poll: Let me start by telling you that TCU coach Trent Johnson is one of the good guys in college basketball, that his 11-0 start this season is something he and his players should be proud of, and that anybody who can't acknowledge those things is silly.I'm happy for Trent.
I'm pleased for his players.
I hope they keep this going forever.
But, that said, TCU shouldn't be anywhere near a Top 25 right now.
Yes, the Horned Frogs are one of the sport's nine remaining undefeated teams, and this start must be fun for a program that finished 0-18 in the Big 12 last season. Again, I'm happy for them. But their best win is over an Ole Miss team that's also lost at home to Charleston Southern and Western Kentucky, and their second-best win is over a Mississippi State team that's on a five-game losing streak and, perhaps, on its way to finishing last in the SEC.
That's not much of a resume.
And that's pretty much the entire resume.
TCU doesn't have any other top-150 wins, according to KenPom. And seven of their 11 victories are against schools KenPom ranks 250th or worse. Congratulations.
So what's happened here, you ask?
Here's what's happened: A team (TCU) that finished 0-18 in the Big 12 last season and waspicked to finish ninth (out of 10 teams) in the league this season has created an 11-0 record thanks to wins almost exclusively over crazy bad teams. And that's why the Horned Frogs showing up in a Top 25 poll really sends a wrong message.
When you haven't been good in recent seasons, aren't supposed to be good this season and haven't done anything tangible to suggest you're much different than what folks anticipated, you shouldn't be rewarded with a Top 25 ranking. This isn't even debatable.

It's not a perfect ranking tool and yada yada yada, blah blah blah, but here are the KenPom rankings of the teams that TCU has beaten this year:

331, 201, 308, 348, 167, 261, 146, 81, 290, 306, 281, 351

There are only 351 teams in D1 ball.

I was giving CSU fans **** for their non-conference schedule, but TCU's makes theirs look like the gauntlet Kansas is running. At least CSU played us, UTEP, UCSB and Georgia St who are all top 100 teams.

Not a bad week for 3-8 Texas Southern: Wins @ Michigan State and @ Kansas State and 1 point loss @ Auburn

Cville, think WVU fans are going to vent some frustrations at Buzz tomorrow?

I'd bet they'll be ready for him. Especially because WVU is 17th and generating some excitement in Morgantown. Didn't y'all knock off WVU last year? Hokies having a better record than CU right now is super depressing (no offense, but it's year 1 of your rebuild)

p.s. UVA #3 this week

I didn't think I would ever see the day this occurred again during the dark days when the Gillen era collapsed due to bad locker room issues and Dave Leitao was hired as his replacement.
