Are we at week 9 already, seems like just a few weeks ago when fans of every program were optimistic about their schools having a great season or at least overachieving. Now we have some very sad, some hoping to stay in contention for bowls, some pushing for better bowls, some hoping for a spot in the college playoffs, and fans in Florida threatening to kill their coach.
Thursday starts with some G5 games and (20) Stanford going into Corvallis to give the Oregon State Beavers their weekly beating.
Friday we have a couple good entertaining teams playing.
Unfortunately they aren’t playing each other. (24) Memphis plays at the mighty 3-4 Tulane Green Wave and 5-2 SMU hosts 2-6 Tulsa. Meanwhile Florida State fans try to figure out how they can be only 2-4 going to Boston College.
Saturday should be a great day of watching with a bunch of top 25 matches.
In the B12 we have (11) Oklahoma State going to (22) West Virginia with two teams that can play exciting football. We will also see if (25) Iowa State is for real as (4) TCU comes in hoping to continue on a path to the playoffs.
Another are they for real game has (14) North Carolina State going into South Bend to battle (9) Notre Dame.
In the normally wouldn’t support them but game (6) Ohio State at home may be the best bet to derail (2) Pervert State keeping them out of playoff contention.
Big PAC games include (15) Washington State at 5-2 Arizona, (21) USC at 4-2 Arizona State, and (12 Washington hosting 4-3 UCLA.
In the teams we love to see lose category we don’t get to include Texas. They are playing Baylor who we would rather see lose as they go for a winless season standing now at 0-7.
Nebraska may actually get a win this week as the Fuskers visit also 3-4 Purdue. If they lose to the Boilermakers some Nebraska fans may end up burning all their red polyester in the streets. No one will pay much attention though just thinking it is some new recipe for cooking meth. When was the last time Purdue was favored by 6.5 over Nebraska?
So far Butch Jones still has a job but Tennessee plays at 5-2 Kentucky this week. Lose again and he may need a food cart to hide behind as he sneaks out of harm’s way. The Volsnation board should be a lot of fun.
Locally Air Force plays Colorado State in Fort Collins. Both teams won last week and this game is important for each. For Air Force they need it to stay in bowl contention, CSU still has hopes of a conference title.
Wyoming needing a win gets the 3-4 New Mexico Lobos in Laramie
UNC at 2-4 host 5-2 Southern Utah after losing last weekend on a game ending FG.
For the small colleges Mesa and Pueblo continue to lead the league. Mesa hosts New Mexico Highlands and Pueblo host Western State. Mines goes to Chadron State.
