Ah, rivalry weekend. That final weekend (has it gone by this fast, it's so much funner when we are winning) when traditions are played out or in our case where a game that is supposed to be a big rivalry but somehow hasn't caught on gets played.
We start on Thursday, turkey day, with a game that looks like it might be interesting, at least more interesting than the dull crap the NFL throws at us.
A 6-4 LSU team that has already fired it's coach goes to an 8-3 Texas A&M which may be the only big Texas power not to fire it's coach this year. Both teams out of the running for championships so just playing for bowl positioning.
Friday the real fun starts
Biggest game of the day
#5 Washington visits #23 Washington State in a game for the PAC12 North title and if Washington wins a chance to continue on to the playoff. Washington State has had a great year but I don't think they have the defense to beat Washington.
Also on the slate #15 Nebraska travels to 7-4 Iowa, a team that struggled early but has been getting better. Fuskers are overrated and Iowa has had success against them. Oh well, kNU fans you can always enjoy your meaningless bowl game that gets you out of the winter hell hole.
Local interest
8-3 Air Force host #19 Boise. Boise has had success against the Zoomies but a win would give AFA a 9 win season.
Saturday
Easily the biggest game of the weekend has #2 Ohio State hosting #3 Michigan. The winner is almost assured a spot in the playoff. Is there room in the stadium for both coaches egos at the same time?
Staying in the B1G disappointing Michigan State could salvage some pride beating #7 Penn State on the road. A Pedo State win could let them slide into the conference championship game.
#13 Auburn plays at #1 Alabama. Bama is the consensus best team in the nation right now but this is a game that has seen plenty of upsets over the years
Staying in the south
#15 Florida goes to #14 Florida State. Florida has a terrible offense, Florida State was supposed to be one of the best teams in the country. Can Sparkles pull it off, will this be Jimbo's last regular season game before moving on? Can more than half the players read and write? Lots of story lines here.
Other interesting games
Georgia Tech vs. Georgia both 7-4
8-3 Minnesota at #6 Wisconsin
9-2 Toledo visits 11-0 #21 Western Michigan, can they ruin their dream season.
In some games that may be the last with their teams for involved coaches
4-7 UCLA at 4-7 Cal
4-7 Oregon at 3-8 Oregon State
5-6 Arizona State looking for bowl eligibility tries to put one more beating on RichRod and the 2-9 Arizona squad
In teams we love to see lose
Stumbling 6-4 Baylor goes to 4-7 Texas Tech
5-6 Texas host 5-5 TCU
And the Barely Breathing (certainly not fighting) Irish of Notre Dame get to be run out of the stadium by #12 USC
Close to home
6-5 CSU gets to go to 9-2 San Diego State
8-3 Wyoming travels to 7-4 New Mexico
In smaller schools
Worth watching for the pagentry
8-1 Grambling plays 8-2 Southern This year this should be a good game. Even when it isn't it's worth watching just to see the fans and the bands.
Locally UNC in done and Colorado Mesa lost last week but Colorado Mines won to advance to a game with Ferris State this weekend
