Into the heart of the season. Teams have had enough games to work out the kinks but not enough to get worn down. Getting cool outside, why rake those leaves when you have a comfy couch and games on the TV.
The Thursday night game gives us 1-2 Texas vs. 2-1 Iowa State, at least it’s football.
Friday we get (14) 2-0 Miami at a quality 4-0 Duke team. The other game give us the fuskers visiting Illinois. The Illini are not a good team, beat the red and the meltdown should be epic.
Biggest game of the week is in the ACC. (2) Clemson visits (12) Virginia Tech. Clemson looks like the real deal but VaTech has reason to believe the can pull the upset and gain a program defining win. Two 4-0 teams going at it.
Two other 4-0 teams bring us home to the PAC 12. (5) USC goes to (16) Washington State. USC should be a much better team than the Cougs but the Trojans always seem to figure out a way to lose a game they shouldn’t. Does Coach Mike (don’t call me Rick) Leach finally come through against a highly talented U$C squad?
The other match-up of top 25 teams is in the SEC with (24) Mississippi State visiting (13) Auburn. Both teams are 3-1.
Also in the SEC we get 4-0 (7) Georgia playing at 3-1 Tennessee. The Vols have had some question marks this year. Is this game a chance for Butch Jones to take a lot of pressure off himself or are the Vols fans going to add to his worries.
Vandy is 3-1 but coming of an ugly 59-0 loss to Bama last week. This week they play at (21) Florida, a team that might not be able to score 59 points against the Bama chess club. A win by the Commodores would knock Florida out of the top 25.
In the B12 (15) Oklahoma State tries to recover from a huge loss to TCU last week at a tough 4-0 Texas Tech.
Interesting game in the PAC has a surprising 3-1 Cal against the 3-1 Ducks and their highlighter stained unis.
Other than the Corn of Friday not a good weekend for seeing the teams we hate lose.
(22) Notre Dame gets Miami (Oh), (4) Pedo State gets the B1G equivalent of a bye hosting Indiana.
We can still get the pleasure of seeing old man Snyder and Kansas State demolish the remnants of Baylor.
Locally 1-2 Air Force tries to get back on track at 2-2 New Mexico. Texas State liked the Rocky Mountains so much they are coming back to play Wyoming who at 2-2 need a win badly. CSU flies to the islands in a match of 2-2 teams.
In lower divisions
Northern Colorado on the road at 1-2 Northern Arizona.
In the RMAC Mesa and Pueblo continue to lead the pack. The league title could be decided as Mesa visits Pueblo this weekend. You can watch it on ESPN3 at 2:00pm
