With this year's schedule, it is going to be a miracle if CU's starters stay healthy like back in 2016.

QB: I'm not really sold on the backup QBs and it would be nice to have confidence in a backup QB. CU's history especially with Charles Johnson backing up Hagan, Hessler backing up Detmer, Pesvanto backing up Ochs, and Montez backing up Liufau...you get my drift. It'd be nice to have similar situations to Utah and Nebraska to a degree (UCF transfer now able to play this season).

We need to have one or even two dependable backups ready to go because I don't think Tucker might tolerate some of Montez's antics over the course of the season and could find the bench as a result. I just looked at the roster and all the backups are 220 if not more...that's good since the QBs probably will be running more but they need more meaningful game experience.

I'll just let others chime in on other positions.

QB depth is a mystery because we haven’t really seen what guys like Lytle and Stenstrom can do in an actual game. We have bodies there, but their capabilities remain a mystery.

I guess our Buffs are gonna have to blow out CSU, Nebraska and Air Force so we can find out what we have ahead of Pac-12 play. I suppose that would be a good plan for this season.

Screw that! Lytle will be playing against Oregon in the 3rd quarter. It’s the off-season so why tf not?

The backups are an unknown commodity, but reports from inside the team have me feeling very good about the guys that are there.

Positions with depth. RB, WR, interior OL, ILB,
Positions with questionable depth: QB, TE, OLB
Positions with no depth at all: DL, OT, C and S.

If we can avoid injuries to those four groups it should be a fun season that exceeds expectations but there are too many spots for me to be confident in that.

RB is another question mark, IMO. Lots of bodies, but not a lot to hang your hat on in terms of historical production.

I don't know if we have 1 starting caliber RB, let alone 3.
Well there aren't going to be 3 starting caliber RB's, but I am confident that we will have someone emerge and then the backups can step in when need be and be productive. That doesn't even include Broussard who could be a good change of pace guy/3rd down back.

DL depth may not be as horrible as we are making it out to be. The top four guys are proven, and there are 3-4 guys behind them who are unknown. If 2 of those unknowns turn out to be good, we are in decent shape. If not, trouble. Losing Antwine hurts.

What? We have two guys who have played meaningful snaps in a Pac-12 football game with Johnson and Lang. Sami will be a first time starter in a P5 conference and he came from a small high school in Colorado Springs. I am hopeful about him but that usually doesn't bode well. Then we have 4 true freshman and 2 Juco guys who were committed to ODU. It could get ugly quickly.

I’m probably being generous including Sami and Sparaco in that top group.

Well Sami is a starter and I like the top three guys with Johnson and Lang in there but I don't see the rotation going well there, especially early.

All the more reason to jump on somebody like CSU in the first half. If we're in control of that game at half or at the end of the third quarter-I expect CMT will see the garbage time as a chance to get a look at some of the depth we have. I expect the Nub game will play out like LY's did, and I think AFA will be another tough one.

Which is another reason why losing Antwine hurts. With him, this is a serviceable to good DL. Now, we are depending on guys to provide depth who haven’t played a D-1 football game. Maybe they’ll be OK. Maybe not.

Still, if we can get any kind of production from Jordan, Simon, Murray and/or Williams, the situation won’t be too bad. A lot is riding on the new guys. I agree that’s not an ideal situation.

We might be able to get by with the JUCO and young guys playing small roles but if one of the top 3 go down there is little to no chance those guys can step in and start while being effective. That is where the issue is. We have to pray for those guys to stay healthy.

Staying healthy to me is the key to the whole season. CU has some good talent across the board at the starting positions to compete with everyone on the schedule. Other than WR and probably ILB, if injuries start occurring (which they will), they will be in big trouble. If that starts occurring at db, ot, or dline, they are screwed.

Man the DL is going to have to stay healthy for sure. If Johnson goes down even for a game or two, we could be in trouble.

The OL is going to have to push that Oldsmobile hard all summer long and then repeat during the season.

This is why fixing the recruiting on the OL and DL has to be a priority. Injuries will happen, having big guys who have been in he system ready to step up is necessary for success.

Like how Utah continued kicking ass last year even after they lost their QB and I believe also their RB? Yeah. Tougher team is going to win 90% of the time. That starts and takes it a long way with winning in the trenches.
