So they aren't going to officially name it the 12-Pac? WEAK!
That's the logo for this season. Couldn't they change the 10 to 12 in the same logo for next year?
Even still, it'd be the Pac-12. LAME!

Would've been fun to have a game in southern california every year, but it's sounding more and more like that won't happen.
I don't mind the zipper idea. This would mean that for every game the SoCal school visits Boulder, we would be visiting an Arizona school. While we visit SoCal, the NorCal school is where we go to wow the recruits. I can imagine the Arizona schools being against the zipper idea since that's one long plane ride to either Seattle or Pullman.
Suppose we do the zipper, who would you want CU to be with?
If I had my way, our zipper division would be:
CU
UCLA
Arizona
Cal
Oregon
Washington

Besides the stupid comment about liberals loving the PC, I agree with said post :smile2: Just make it the PAC.They should either stick with Pac 10 regardless of the number of schools, or drop the number all together a-la the SEC, ACC, etc. The Pacific Conference would be fine with me, and I'm sure the liberal faction in Boulder and Berkeley would love being members of the PC.
Besides, in 3 years when the Big 12 blows up and the Pac gobbles up some of the remains, we don't want to change the name again.

The zipper plan is quite possibly the dumbest idea I have ever heard but whatever.
California seems to be the coveted playing area so why not just zipper the Cal teams?
CU
UU
ASU
UA
UCLA
CAL
UW
WSU
OSU
UO
USC
STAN
I like this zipper better.

If a zipper format is selected, the names of the different Pac-10 divisions could get messy. East/West doesn't work very well. Does Cal get to be East because they are on the right hand side of the bay, even though Berkeley is farther west than every other school in the conference not named Stanford?
If a North/South naming convention is selected then, a cartographer with a great GPS system will have to sort out the placement of USC and UCLA. A 4.0 quake on the Puente Hills or Whittier fault line could trigger a sismic realignment of the SoCal institutions.
What will Larry Scott decide to do?
Here is my recommendation. If a zipper design is used in the Pacific-10 (Tip o' the hat to Dave Plati who knows about approved Caps and hyphen placement), then name one division the "Whitcomb Judson" and the other the "Gideon Sunbeck."
These two ambiguously gay Victorian era gentlemen are credited with the invention of the zipper. If Mythbusters were around a hundred years ago, Whitcomb would be Jamie and Gideon would be Adam. NTTIAWWT.
And make sure CU has a place in the Whitcomb Judson Division along with Arizona, UCLA, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington. Send Utah, ASU, USC, Cal, Oregon, and Wazzou to the Gideon Sunback.
Now I know CU is a better cultural fit (read progressive dope smokers) with Cal and Oregon. But those pin head Cardinal Tree are easier to beat than Cal, have nicer facilities, and would help CU look smarter, if not less ambitious.
Sure, it would be nice if CU could join up with Oregon and Washington, but there is no way the Gideon Sundback powers that be would ever accept all three members of the conference with "state" in their school crest in the same grouping as those prima donnas at USC.
So you either get the Ducks or the Huskies, not both. I'll take Washington for the caffeine, grunge, and flotilla based poop deck gates. Plus Jet city Sea-Tac has lots of direct flights. If you want Oregon, then add $200 more for the hop to Eugene, or plan for a couple more hours on football Saturday competing with 18 wheelers on that long and perhaps rainy hike down Interstate 5. The goal here is to put up with the Beavers in order to minimize trips to Pullman.
Were you expecting something revolutionary? This conference has spent years building the "Pac" brand. I see no problem with Pac-12. Though, I don't quite get the point rolling out a new logo for schools to use only to make the schools re-do their stuff in a year for Pac-12 logos.
True..
From another article:
"One Pacific NW school is dead-set on being paired with at least one of the SoCal schools, I’ve been told, and the California schools are loathe to be separated.
*** Dividing the league by the natural rivals (i.e., the Zipper Plan, proposed on the Hotline in February) is gaining traction.
The Zipper is viewed by some within league circles as the only option that could be begrudgingly accepted by everyone without infuriating anyone.
When I asked Scott, he said: “We’re looking at several ‘Zipper’ options.” (Of course, league officials are also looking at non-Zipper options.)
*** The California schools are absolutely committed to playing each other every year."
