Also, I believe the coaches will be at ESPN on Friday for the round of sportscenters and radio. I haven't heard anywhere if they're doing the times square stuff like they've done previously.

Think the ducks are on the way down. Do not trust their HC to maintain that level of success at all.

Oregon's schedule works out pretty favorably. I expect them to be in the PAC12 championship game. I'd also pick AU over ASU. Other than that, the media poll looks pretty much spot on.
 
I hope they change the setup a little. They keep having all these guys sit on tiny looking bar stools on the stage with no podium or anything in front of them. Everybody looks uncomfortable.

Football is getting close now. Fall camps start next week.

Silver facemask and a black out line on silver ralphie. All white alternate uni with silver stripe vs gold on the shoulders.

Our official colors are silver and gold. We don't do enough with the silver.

Stressed an important point that gets lost by the sports media:

The Pac-12 Conference has 22 varsity sports and member institutions sponsor a total of 36 varsity sports.

Therefore, the conference and its members need an NCAA system that works for both the revenue sport and the athletes who will turn pro along with all of the other sports and athletes. From a student-athlete perspective, 97 or 98% are not applicable to what ESPN likes to stress (the Johnny Manziel autograph signing cases who could be making a bunch of money). You can't do something that serves those top 2 or 3% of athletes that poorly serves the 97 or 98%. College athletics is different than a professional league. The mission includes opportunities for athletes in a bunch of sports that lose money for the university athletic departments and those other sports are valued so highly that the universities and their fans are always looking for ways to add more of these financial loss-leaders rather than cutting them as a business enterprise would.
 
Scott got a somewhat cynical and sarcastic reaction on twitter from the college football hivemind from what I saw. Some appreciated his optimism, but most of the cfb writers/pundits have decided that the concern for the olympic sports is not real, and administrators are being disingenuous when they bring it up, so he got hammered for that.

The problem is none of these writers have really looked into how a pay for play system would work, they just seem hellbent on seeing it happen somehow, death to the NCAA and all that. So I really have trouble believing their side of it either.

The cfb writers/pundits don't think that Olympic Sports matter to the universities because the Olympic Sports don't matter to their parent media companies.

And when it comes to the Pac-12, excellence in Olympic Sports is a very real consideration and a source of pride for member institutions. It's an essential part of the sporting culture in this conference. It is also a driver for the Pac-12 Network and its plans for expanding into Asian markets.

Kudos to Larry Scott for those comments. There are a lot more student athletes than just men's basketball and football players. ALL student athletes, regardless of their sport or the money their particular sport makes (or doesn't make) should be treated equally under this new utopian NCAA.

I think the general consensus is not that the olympic sports aren't important or should go away, in some instances it is the argument, but it's usually more that there's plenty of money for those olympic sports, even with a significant pay for play system. And that the hand wringing from the NCAA and certain administrators is just a scare tactic to keep fball and bball athletes from demanding too much going forward.

If you bring up the fact that a lot of Athletic Dept.'s are barely profitable, if at all, they say the money is there, it's just being directed towards needless admin positions, bloated coaching/admin salaries, and extravagant facilities. Also, AD's and Universities are using some fuzzy accounting to hide profits. Their argument is if the school's really think olympic sports are that important, they can re-direct that money towards olympic sports.

I can see some of their argument, but I really don't think it would work that smoothly.
