Pac 12 TV Deal with FOX+ESPN, worth $250m per year according to NYT

Important points in a nutshell
* ESPN and Fox will be co-rightsholders.

* Games will be shown on Fox, ABC, FX, Fox Sports Net, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.

* The contract includes the Pac-12 football championship game, which will be shown alternately on Fox and ABC.

* The deal is worth approx $3 billion … or approx $250 million per year … or approx $21 million per school per year.

* The deal starts in 2012-13 and covers 12 years.

* The league will form its own network — and be the sole owner (unlike Big Ten Network partnership with Fox).

* The conference will also create a digital channel, like ESPN3.

* The conference is expected to formally announce the deal Wednesday in Phoenix, where it’s holding its annual spring meetings.
 
**** yes. We in the $$! Almost perfect. We get the mothership invested in us, which definitely helps exposure espn hyping us.Sounds like the pac12 channel is up in the air though... Hmmmm.
 
This includes the Pac-12 holding back rights so that it can still create a Pac-12 network.

Very big deal. $225 million per year / 12 teams + conference share = $17.3 million to CU

That's $8 million above what we got in a good year from the Big 12 and there's still the potential for the Pac-12 network to pay out in a big way (especially if we get Pan-Asian distribution). For a point of reference, the Big 10 Network had payouts of $6.1 million and $6.4 million, respectively, to each member during the first 2 years of that network's existence.
 
Jon Wilner says teams will on average receive 18.75m per year, SEC teams get 18.3m per year.

$18.75 would be the number if the conference didn't get anything. I doubt that. But the conference may get funded a different way. $18.75 is certainly possible as the correct number.
 
Very good news. More than the new Big 12 (or whatever) contract per school and we share it equally rather than picking up Texas crumbs. Plus more potential in the Pac 12 network. Another vindication for changing conferences.
 
Dennis Dodd reports the Pac 12 most likely held back the rival games from this deal to put them on the Pac 12 Network.

Uhoh, the $225m might be too low, Wilner now says he reckons 240-250m and wouldn´t be shocked if it was more than 250m

Beat me to it. Wilner brings fantastic news. I wonder if its an option depending on the formation of the pac12 network?

And again, the 12 year timeline is FANTASTIC. the SEC et al are locked in for 7 or more years AFTER we have a chance to renegotiate and bump everything up. Not to mention we will be the ONLY major college conference on the table. Larry Scott is a smart smart man.

*** 7:55 a.m. update: Hearing that 1) the initial figures are light — the actual deal is more lucrative than what has been reported thus far. Could be $250 million annually? … 2) Pac-12 Network still very much a possibility … Also, I think there still a big piece of this that has NOT been disclosed. None of the info is coming from the Pac-12. The league could release all the info Wednesday.

Pac 12 retains FULL ownership of the Pac 12 Network, unlike the Big 10 network, where 49% of the shares are held by Fox

Pac 12 will also, in addition to the Pac 12 Network, create a digital channel like ESPN3
 
Oh. ****. Yes. This is the new thing: (or one of them! :bounce:)
The Pac-10’s new channel will carry at least 350 sports events. The conference is also creating a digital channel, like ESPN3, to carry at least 500 events annually, and a properties division to handle sponsorships.

The stuff in the NYT article is from Larry Scott directly. Wilner had an interview request with Scott denied and will talk to media at large tomorrow, but did talk to NYT
