There are some horrendous teams in the Pac-12 this year. Like, worse than we even thought. This has been an epically embarrassing start for the new-look Pac. Utah is probably the worst, but Arizona State and USC (scoring 36 against Cal Poly, really?) are giving them a run for their money. UCLA has been a total disaster thus far as well, with blowout losses to Loyola-Marymount and Middle Tennessee. You've got to think they'll at least somewhat get their act together sometime soon. Oregon State has perhaps been the surprise thus far, starting 4-0, including a nice 100-95 win over Texas in OT on a neutral court. We'll know more about Cal when they face UGA tomorrow night. Thus far, even with our own expected bumpy start, the Buffs are in prime position to finish in the middle of the pack ahead of the preseason prediction of 10th. If we show the strong improvement we expect by the time league play rolls around, we've got a great shot to finish in the top half of the league standings. I predicted 7th before the season started and that's still realistic imo.

USC: 1-3

-Nebraska: -L- 64-61 2OT

I truly hope that CU can finish in the top half of the PAC 12 this year, but I do not think that will happen. CU lost four good to great players last year. This year's seniors are quality people but not skilled enough or tough enough to deliver the way that the seniors (and Burks) did last year. None of the new comers are equal to these any of these four in terms of talent and toughness at this point (except maybe Brown). CU is 2 - 3 years away from being a top tier PAC 12 team. I like these guys, but they have a long way to go as a program. Boyle is a great leader and coach. I like all of the guys that he has brought in. But, if they finish in sixth or seventh, even in this down year for the PAC 12 ... or make the NIT he should be coach of the year in College Basketball.

Having said this, we all should be there to support them. They will take their lumps this year, but we have great things to look forward to down the road. Let's see if the fans can match the qualities that we are looking for in our players.

I understand your reasoning, but my point is, who in the Pac is going to step up? This is a bad conference, and frankly CU is better than - or just about equal to - 8 teams in this league. We may not finish 6th, but we will finish ahead of 10th. I will stake my allbuffs reputation on that.
 
If CU finishes in the top half of the PAC12 this year, CTB should get some consideration for coach of the year in the conference. Buffs' best chance is to defend their home floor and use the altitude, cause without post scoring conference road victories are very hard to come by.

I keep saying how the rest of the pac sucks and we will get better but then I realize every other pac team is saying they're gonna get better too

No we had a center named Michael Dunnigan who was a 5 star and rated number 1 center. Ironically he quit on us too, but that was with a different coach.
 
The 2 rumors that are out there is that he quit due to lack of work ethic or he quit due to lack of chemistry with his team mates.

In other words, prima donna.

He's used to being a star, Altman made him earn minutes (probably asked him to play defense, run the actual offense, and pass the ball), and he's not happy.

That is what it sounds like to me and he did pull a stunt similar to this in high school. He transferred from Oakland to Findlay Prep mid season then quit and went back to Oakland.

Was only averaging 6pts and 2boards through 2 games and shooting 27%. Hard to judge a kid too much on his first two games as a freshman, but looks like there was some trouble adjusting

I think he was trying to hard instead of just letting the game come to him.
 
Question, the Ducks next opponent is Nebraska and I was wondering what you guys knew about their basketball program this year.

Nebraska was picked 11th in the B1G preseason poll. They lost their leading scorer from last year, but they do return a bunch of veterans, including the biggest/fattest Brazilian dude you will ever see in your life. He's like 8'6 535lbs, but not very good. They're 3-0 so far this year with two junk wins, and a 64-61 2OT win at U$C. Lincoln can be kind of a black hole, they're not very good but they have a way of making games ugly and finding ways to beat teams that are better than them at home. It'll be an ugly, low-scored, physical game.

Altman says he is shocked and hopes brown reconsiders his decision. Sounds like all of the players were blindsided by Jabari Brown leaving the team and they did not find out until after the game was over. Something is odd here.

I'm honestly really surprised at how little we've faced our new conference foes in basketball. We've practically played more games against the Pac in football than we have in basketball, despite there being so many more OOC basketball games. You'd think with there being so many less athletic programs in the west than the east that we would have bumped into these guys more often than we have out of simple traveling convenience + some regional interest. Only facing ASU 4 times and none since 1968? Oregon only 5 times? Strange.
