For all those Texas fans and Baylor people that think that we somehow had to beat out Baylor so we bolted early.....
Then Scott took command of the Pac-10, made expansion a priority and gave the Buffaloes a chance to start over.
“Part of what I did was take a step back,’’ he said. “Compared to our peers, we were smaller: We were only in four states and 16 million households. I felt we needed at least 12 teams … We needed to get bulkier.’’
Scott presented three expansion models to the Pac-10 presidents, his targets based on geographic compatibility, cultural fit, revenue-generating potential, academic stature and commitment to a broad-based athletic program.
Colorado was the only school that appeared in all three models.
