Parker Orms

DeNiro

My Dixie Wrecked
The view from my seat was he was out of position more than any other defender tonight. I know he lead the team in tackles tonight, but he also probably led the team in missed tackles. Is it time to move past him? He just doesn't play like a 5th year senior. I know we don't have much behind him. Thoughts?

This says everything you need to know about the talent we have on this team...

Ya too bad Smith comes back too next year. I thought we finally got rid of our slow and undersized Safeties

We've got a lot of MWC talent all over the place playing in a brutal new-look Pac-12. That's really all that can be said.

The last decent safety we had was Ryan Walters. Dykes was undersized and slow, but at least he was in position most of the time. We haven't had good safety play in YEARS. Good safeties are essential in the Pac12.

I'm most disappointed with our DTs this year. They needed to be disruptive for this defense to have a chance. Hopefully they are just a year away, but I have not been impressed.

Ryan Walters, and I loved the guy, would have been absolute toast in this conference. Good safety, really good Big 12 Safety, not fast or athletic enough for the PAC.

I agree and our DE's haven't done much either.

We have some good young DTs with young the operative word. Other than Bonsu almost all of our DT play is by guys who are sophs. On most teams these guys would still be down the depth chart working on getting bigger, stronger, and ready to play. Here they are on the field because we don't have a choice.

Orms is guy who is all heart. Unfortunately that means he isn't legs and shoulders and all the other things that effective safeties use. He would be an outstanding safety in the MWC playing against a lower level of talent. In the PAC he faces guys on every play who are bigger, fast, stronger than he is. To make up for it he tries to "anticipate" plays meaning he is guessing and often that means he ends up out of position.

Orms would be a great guy to have as a fifth safety, a guy to play in certain situations and to be a key on the STs. As a starter he is evidence of the weaknesses on our roster.

I'm not going to go overboard on him. He is short on talent but has given everything he has in a period of years when a lot of guys weren't even close. He has come back from multiple injuries and dealt with multiple coaching changes without a lot of reward.

Orms did have a number of MWC offers and would have had more had he sought them. I have no anger towards him, only towards those who allowed us to get to a point where we don't have a better option than having him be a key part of our defense.

Agree. No anger, and I give him a pass, kind of, on the occasional chippy shot. As you say, plays with a lot of heart (and guts). Wouldn't start for CSU this year, but probably would for WYO. A classic example of the over-confident, over-shot, over-signed, HS athlete.

I think he's probably the best we have. And that is that. I no longer watch the games critically, looking for ways I think the team can get better. The problem is talent. I hate to say it, but CU just doesn't match up with anybody in the P12. Most of the blame for that can be laid at DII Danny's feet, whose ultimate goal was to play his son...no matter how many losses it took. He killed recruiting....

Yup. Destroyed it. The Hawkins Regime was like anthrax in a maternity ward. He was a Sports Dad, not a coach. Sarin gas, a cancer. I should be blunt and quit beating around the bush so much.
