Pat Summit Diagnosed With Dementia

This is really terrible news. That disease sucks. I'll be rooting for the Lady Vols this year. Would love to see her go out on top...
 
That got to be a tough day for the Lady Vols fanbase. At least JoePa can help her out if she asks.

best wishes for her and the lady vols. just awful. what a scary thing to have to face. i honestly wish her all the best.
 
Dementia and Alzheimer's run in my family; I empathize with the Summit family and wish the best for Pat and her family. I'm glad to see she's trying to stick with what she loves.

Losing control of your own mind is the scariest thing in the world to me. Honestly scary stuff.
 
Summitt is stepping aside and will be "head coach emeritus". Longtime assistant Holly Warlick will be the new head coach.

Hate seeing it end this way. Too bad they couldn't win it last year, but hopefully they can get it this year for Pat.
 
That's making official the roles that Summitt and Warlick basically played this past season. I think it's a good choice. Pat was clearly not the same person. Sad to see this happen but I think the people involved have made the right decisions. Keeping Pat associated with the Lady Vol program is good becasue she still means so much to their program and the game in generalo.

Hopefully she can still play a role with the school as well. Not sure how far advanced it is right now, but she IS the Tennessee program. God, she's the first thing I think of when I think of that school.

She's the first person I think of when someone brings up women's basketball.
 
I talked to a Tennessee fan during a layover on my way to the Final Four. According to her, the fans were wanting Pat to step aside as it was so painful to watch her on the sidelines and for Holly to be the head coach.

It is very sad. Pat is the same age as me.

I think of Coach Barry when I think of women's basketball. :saythat:
