Phil Steele's eraly top 10 projection

I hope stubborn Les Miles takes advantage of Mettenberger. If he does, he will probably go pro after this year. One and done - he should have played him last season, but he had his head stuck up Jefferson's ***.

Important to note this is not his prediction of the top 10, but his prediction of the AP top 10. So do you guys think the AP will place those teams differently, or that those teams don't belong in that position?

This. I bet we're a close to consensus 6th in the Pac-12 South going into 2012.

Definitely. We lose our best WR, starting QB, best RB, and best Olineman. We have an unproven defense that played pretty badly last year. I see us shocking some folks like we have in MBB.

We're going to be picked as the 12th team in the conference early and often.

I disagree, Phil is usually good to us, and we beat Utah at Utah last year. We have them in Boulder,, so Phil will make that a W. 3 south schools are breaking in new coaches. We will be picked 4th or 5th in the south by Phil. I know how he works and what his opinions on CU and Embree are.

While I do not believe Oregon will be playing like a top 4 team to start the year the Ducks have the advantage of a very weak schedule until they meet USC. I would also like to point out I do not think Colorado will finish last in the South and will surprise a few teams most people don't see them beating. The Pac-12 never seems to be consistent outside of USC at the top so a team that finished at the bottom could end up in the top 5 the next year.

Utah returns 18 starters. They're going to be a trendy pick for 2nd in the South.

We're going to be a near consensus for 6th. To the casual observer, this is going to be another rough season for CU. We're going to have to prove otherwise.

I don't think we're going to finish 6th either. 6 wins and a bowl isn't out of the question. But, heading into the season, we're not going to get any respect and frankly that's fair.

Those of you predicting our finish based on lost players are doing what Phil did - predict the AP's ratings - not make his own. The rest of you didn't read his web page.

I agree about other publications, but I know for a fact Phil will not pick us 6th as he told me so, unless something comes along to change his mind.

Sweet. Next time you have beers with him ask him about The U

I will do!!!

No seriously, I asked him in a message on FB several weeks ago what his thoughts on the Pac-12 and CU were this year, he had some good things to say about CU and Embree. I wont go into detail, but he doesn't think CU is the worst or will finish last in the conference. Schools with new coaches will play a big role in his rankings. Schedule is another big thing with his and he acknowledged that CU had a much "softer" schedule than what they have had in a while. Remember Steele's rankings are based off what he thinks the final outcome will be, not ranking of the best teams.

Phil Likes to brag on himself.

For the third year in a row I nailed nine of the ten teams that appeared in the Preseason Top 10 with the only exception being South Carolina/Nebraska

The betting mans magazine. His analysis was a must read for me all through the 90s.
