Pitino to Minnesota!

Anything but a very odd choice. His name was floating out there, he put in eight years as an assistant, was associate head coach, then head coach. Plus, his dad is Rick.
 
Given Minnesota's expectation that a coach come in and immediately return them to their "golden era" of 60 years ago, it's a highly strange choice. Unless they're prepared to go through years of growing pains as he learns on the job, this will end with a firing in 3 years. Clearly their standard is much higher winning 20+ games 5/6 seasons. So, they hire a 30 year old who benefited from nepotism and then one year as a HC in the Sun-Belt barely finishing above .500. Interesting. Hope they're ready for patience. Past precedent says they aren't.

The last part is why he's getting it. Anyone else with his resume would have to put in more time at the lower levels before becoming a BCS-level coach. This might get his foot in the door, but it won't matter if he's not winning there.
