Going into next season the Buffs are still going to be weak at some positions - I think that several of the incoming Freshmen are going to be playing in 2012 especially on defense and the Tight End position. That means the Buffs may have more talent on the field than last year but are going to suffer from inexperience. One way to mitigate some of this is for some of the existing players to step up their performance a notch or two.
Nick Kasa - big things were expected out him coming out of HS but for a variety of reasons his promise has not been realized yet. I would like to see him have a big year at Tight End - he has the athletic ability but does not have much experience at the position. This is a position of need for the team and if someone steps up they will get the opportunity.
Ryan Dannewitz - Well regarded coming out of HS, he has contributed but needs to start being more dominating. Another Senior that could seize a leadership opportunity.
Jack Harris - While we are on the Oline, it would be nice if Harris could be injury free going into the fall. The coaches have been high on his ability but injuries have undermined his contributions.
DaVaughn Thornton - DaVaughn has always been an intriguing player to me, if you watch him in scrimmage he is no doubt a good athlete but seems to be a little light for tight end and also has had drops in key situations. I think he can contribute if he steps it up. I would like to see him as a slot receiver - he would be tough to cover for a linebacker.
Jarrod Darden - Yes he is still on the team, he was well regarded out HS but has not been evident after 3 years in the program. Time for him to make himself known...just want to see something out of him.
Josh Moten - Another good athlete who seems to be uncomfortable in his position. He seemed to man up after being suspended - first player to be reinstated. Would be really nice if he could be a solid contributor as a DB.
Quarterback - No names here just a big need. CU needs someone to step it up here. Connor Woods or Nick Hirschman seem to have the lead at this time but have not seen either one of them very much. But CU desperately needs better QB play. CU's drive efficiency was horrible last year and needs to improve. If someone could step into this position and play well - I think everyone knows what it would mean.
These are just a few and there are some others that could make a difference. Ray Polk has been a starter but I would like to see him become an all-conference caliber safety - he has the athletic talent he just has to put it together.
