Does this mean the Egg Bowl winner is in?

Not if it's Ole Miss because if they win that opens the door for Ohio State/Baylor/TCU. Even if MSU wins, is being a conference champion enough to vault an Ohio State or Baylor over them?

Agree. I don't think FSU making the playoff if they win out is a done deal-their reputation is a factor in where they are. Had Duke, Miami, or Georgia Tech been having the same season they've had, that team would be no higher than 6th.

You talking about FSU or MSU? Because if FSU wins out they will make the playoff.

buttSECS has two teams. I guess the rest of American football is inferior.

This doesn't look any different than the Boring Craptacular Series

buttSECs might be the dumbest phrase I have seen on this site, which is saying a lot.

I would drop MSU out, they already lost against another team in the top 4.

Heres the question for you Greg-who do you replace them with? I'm perfectly fine with them staying in it-given the way that game played out. You can find flaws in the cases for what looks like a consensus 5-6-7.........

In no particular order....
Ohio State-That loss to VA Tech is awful. Happened at home, and VA Tech might barely eek into a bowl game.
Baylor-They played NOBODY in September. The win over TCU looks better and better, but is it enough to counter the weakest OOC in Division One?
TCU-Credit to them for playing Minnesota OOC. That said, they do have that loss to Baylor. How does the committee handle head to head?

If MSU is sitting at 11-1 with a loss to Alabama in Tuscaloosa, how do you take either Big 12 team or Ohio State over them? There's no harm in a road loss at Alabama......Sure, they don't have a conference championship, but how big is that, really?

I would go with TCU.
I agree with Greg that I would hope the playoff includes 4 teams that didn't play each other during the season. A rematch is bad. If the same team wins the second time, then why was the other team in the playoff? If the other team wins in the playoff, then they are effectively 1-1 and it seems another game is necessary to determine the champ. Keep the regular season relevant.

I know you didn't ask for my opinion, but presuming all four (Baylor, TCU, OSU, MSU) win out:

MSU (Sagarin SOS out of these 4: 1, Conf Champs: No, Head to Head: N/A ,Common opponents: None)
Other considerations: only loss on the road to a playoff team, Weak OOC schedule, didn't even play in conference championship game

OSU (SOS: 3, Conf Champs: Yes, Head to Head: N/A, Common opponents: Beat Minnesota at Minnesota close)
Other considerations: most wins out of all 4 (will have played extra game), played a P5 and D1 independent OOC, Weakest conference out of the 4, worst loss out of the 4

TCU (SOS 2, Conf Champs: No: Head to head: Lost close on the road to Baylor, Common opponents: soundly beat Minnesota at home, beat WV close on the road)Other considerations: Played a P5 OOC, only loss was EXTREMELY close on the road to a very good team

Baylor (SOS: 4, Conf Champs: Yes, Head to head: beat Baylor close at home, Common Opponents: Multiple score loss to WV on the road)Other considerations: Conf Champs, probably the best victory of any of these teams, 2nd worst loss of any of these teams, weak OOC (although I do not think it's measurably worse than MSU)

In this scenario, I would personally put in OSU, although I think that OSU would get boatraced by any of the other playoff teams. There are serious warts on all of these teams, though.

That said, I think MSU loses the Egg Bowl, and I think Ohio State trips up somewhere. If that happens, then I honestly would have to think Baylor gets in.

Oregon has like the 107th ranked Defense in the country (Total Defense). I think they get mauled in the 4 team playoff though either way. The Pac12 is better top to bottom this year, but not as good at the top. All the teams have some flaws.

We are going to beat Oregon.
Mariota is going to rush for 100 at roughly 10 ypc, pass for 250 in less than 20 attempts, and they will pile up over 300 yards on the ground. Our safety situations is beyond dire. Peyton manning couldn't win this game with our defense. Our best hope is that Sefo (or Gehrke) catch fire and keep it close. The offense will have zero room for mistakes.

Would pay to see him try, though.

I don't care if 2 of the teams have played already or not. I want to see the best 4 teams in the country with no regard for conference tie-ins. There are circumstances where the best team in a conference at the end of the year didn't play in the CCG, or the second, third or fourth best team in the country is in the same division as the #1. that team should be in the playoff. What I don't want is any tie to either poll or the ESPN power ranking. I don't like the committee and would prefer if the participants were chosen strictly from computer rankings that don't take polls or power rankings under consideration.

What do you like? I think your conflicted.

I think only one team from each conf should make it.
I think it should be the winner of the CCG, making the season matter
Everyone after that should have a "play in" like March Madness.

This would mean more than 4 teams gets invited.
