Predictions on PAC12 Scheduling

I'm interested to hear the thoughts of how you see the PAC12 schedule for football changing in light of conference-only games. I read a recent article that they are still looking at proposals for scheduling including going to a 10 or 11 game conference schedule.

I think that in terms of limiting travel and risk that it would make sense to keep the North and South divisions divided and to have each team play a home/home series with all the other teams in the division. That would give each team 10 games and set up nicely for a PAC12 Championship game. I am unsure we'll see a full bowl game schedule, but I'd hope that bowl eligibility would get reduced from 6 wins to 5 wins.

What are your thoughts?

If forced to make a prediction, I’d guess we go to a 10-game Spring season with conference games only. Starting late Feb/early March and running through May. Much will depend on the availability of a Covid vaccine.

if the season gets played, I agree the conferences will implement some geographically based pod system like you're describing. all the P5's seem to be considering this.

I don't think there will be a bowl season this year.

Really was struck by Dana White's recent comments on Fight Island which is applicable to all sports. The UFC for those who do not know has been doing their fights on an island in Dubai. The fighters and their people all fly in and are tested there. Crowds are minimal to non existent. The UFC initially did not even disclose where the island was.

Dana about the Island:

"There seems to be this thought with the media and fans, I guess, that we're going to do four fights on fight island and that's it. Fight island is here to stay. I mean. I can see us not only finishing the year on fight island, but going into this next year fight island the way that this thing is going. When I go over there on this trip, I am looking at houses over there. I'm either going to buy a house or a condo or something over there. We're going to be there for awhile"

While White was initially dismissive of Corona Virus he has taken aggressive, creative actions to ensure that the UFC has a platform and infrastructure to exist for as long as the pandemic lasts.

If they move it to the Spring, the entire thing should be re-evaluated. There’s no need to decide on a 10 game conference only schedule in mid July.

Teams still got to order their airline tickets and reserve hotel rooms so I'd say sooner than later.

Well damn. Move the entire NCAA to fight Island! Online classes FTW!

If Dana White had Larry's job I would have 0% doubt that we would have football in the fall. He would find a way. No sport has encountered more resistance to its existence than the UFC but here we are in this Pandemic and they exist and most other sports do not.
Most sports aren’t individual ones wherein you can tightly monitor participants. Most other sports make sense only in the context of having audiences/crowds, whereas the UFC has almost always been about PPV first and crowd second.

I don't argue with that. There are unique challenges for College Football.

Dana White is a massive prick with a God complex. Having said that, he would kill it as a P5 conference commissioner, because he takes no **** from anyone and gives zero ****s about what people think about the way he gets things done. He would probably alienate the other P5 commissioners, but he'd also get a TV deal that was 100x better than the one we have now.

Seems like Larry Scott sold the P12 that he would use the type of thinking we're seeing from White-but instead we got...........I don't know. If LS gets bought out, I'd at least make DW tell me no if I'm the Pac 12-just the publicity from that would have to be good.

I got this from ramnation (which probably means its not accurate) but figured I'd throw it here anyway-10 game season starting 9/12. My guess is we play the people in league we're already scheduled to play and Cal or OSU on the road to start.
