PRich should not go pro this year

PRich is a total stud, don't get me wrong. But I honestly don't think he should go pro this year. He started out the year so well but has had a harder time getting open the past few weeks even when only single covered.

Obviously, our OL has sucked and not given our QBs time and our QBs haven't always gotten him the ball when he is open, but to me his biggest weakness which HCMM mentioned during Fall camp and has been obvious in the past few games is he has to get stronger. He sometimes gets pushed off the ball and pushed around by physical corners. And the Pac has some good corners but he will see that go to another level in the NFL.

He needs to put on more weight and improve his ability to fight for the ball-One of Sefo's picks was due to PRich getting pushed around down field.

Having said that, many of us were wrong about Dre and Bakhtari coming out early so I could be wrong on PRich too.

Thoughts?

I don't think he should go either. He needs more weight to help in his blocking and shedding guys off. He needs to work on his route running skills and find creases in the zone better. He used to go over the middle on slants more often; I'm not sure why that isn't called anymore. We need to get him into open space.

With that said he tore his acl already so if he gets a second round or higher grade he should probably go.

We need more playmakers.

He's gone. He just needs to run a sub 4.5 40 and not put up awful weight lifting numbers.

Why would anybody who has any options at all stick around? He should go if he thinks he'll get drafted in any round. He can get stronger on somebody's practice squad. Learning how to beat triple teams on a 10 loss college team does him no good.

It was true for Bak and its true for Prich.

I will say this. I am going to get beat up, but here it goes.

PRich has no reason to go pro yet. He is an average receiver at best on a team that can not punch it's way out of a wet sack. He is small, light and not a consistent play maker. We have had better receivers come through this program that are not and have not played in the pros. Until you show you can go up and take the ball from the defender, until you can win the hand battle off the line of scrimmage, the pro DB's will eat him up. If it is not single coverage fly pattern, PRich has really not beaten anyone consistently. The great receivers make plays. PRich as of late is only making plays late in the game when the defense has rotated starters out and playing soft.

I like PRich, but lets not get all jiggy inside. He has been shown up by receivers on the same field.

False. PRich is very very good, but he is also on a very bad team. Keep in mind that he is coming off of a major injury. He isn't perfect yet, but he is a legitimate NFL prospect who has a very high ceiling.

Totally with you on this. I've been saying this since week 2. Can he sit down in the zone? Get off bump and run coverage? Make pro-level lateral moves? You know, the things NFL-level WRs are expected to do. I haven't seen it. The only successful player I've seen in the NFL with PRich's body type is Desean Jackson, who is far more laterally quick and savvy and dangerous, and even he has been spotty. Unless they start making different plays calls for him, more slants, z routes, hitches, etc., PRich will continue to make the occasional amazing catch like he did vs. Oregon, but will never be a consistent factor. And yes, our OL and QB play is part of that, but his inability to do much more than run fast in a straight line is also a big factor.

All of that said, I agree on the economics. If some team is willing to gamble on him in the late rounds, he should go. But he has to make the team to get the $480k rookie deal. But I think that will be his last contract, honestly.

I think some of you guys are going to be surprised at how high he gets drafted.

I didn't think Bak was ready, but I was being selfish. I wanted a player good enough to get drafted to spend all of his eligibility helping the Buffs get much needed wins. If Richardson has NFL talent, he's gone.

The fact that Richardson had a serious knee injury tells me he has one foot out the door, If he projects to a late second early third I will bet the leaves.

Well, then more the reason to get those freshmen on the field. Redshirts be damned ! We need wins and we need to start working on next years line-up.

How is this any different than the last few years under Embree? There is some talent that can be developed among all of the classes at CU. MM's top priorities are playing the best player, and building a solid foundation for the future. Continuing to throw freshman out there each year is not really a long term recipe for success.

I know that... but, if PRich is destined to leave. Then lets get some game experience. Look at Bak. I am surprised he has done so well at GB, where has that been the 3 years with us? same as soldier, guy is killing it now. Lot of CU's problem is retention, right? When TClem came back, that was his best year and probably helped him in the draft too.

Not only that, but Andre Roberson needs to come back for his senior year! There's no way he goes in the first round!

I think P.Rich is likely gone to the NFL if he is valued at 3rd rd or above. This is typically a really grey grading area. Lots of kids think they are going in the 3rd and the end up in the 5th. I hope P.Rich stays to work on his route running but I am leaning at a 75 percent likely chance he is gone.

He probably is gone due to, who wants to be around the mess going on in Dal Ward? + kids these days - want to get paid.
Reality is, he is not ready physically or mentally. We hear what a great team-mate he is, so hopefully he comes back and proves what a great player he can be. Pretty mixed bag so far. Good against inferior opponents, not much against mid road Pac12 teams.

Not so fast my friend. From a mental aspect, I heard that he worked his ass off in the classroom and in the training room to maximize his time during rehabilitation. I actually get the impression that he is more prepared mentally than many players due to his having to deal with the injury.

For the physical part, I think he could add 10-15 pounds of muscle in the off season after being drafted and be pretty effective in the NFL.

Maybe with some 'help'. I don't think Richardson's a guy who puts on bulk easily.

He's gone.

Hopefully we just don't have any of his family members trash us on the way out.

SIAP, but I heard on one of the ESPNU shows that Kiper has a very high grade on P-Rich. That probably means he has heard that some teams are high on him, because Kiper doesn't stick his neck out with independent evaluations.

PRich has an extra gear and has a knack for getting open on single coverage. He has been going up against and will continue to go against defense that are designed to take him out of the game.

My selfish self would love to say he has another year. My unbiased eyes know he should go and grab the ring while it is there. The knee injury from last year is just one exapmle of why he should go. Too much risk in this sport especially on a subpar team where the only thing he would accomplish would by coming back next year would to maybe get to a lower tier bowl. Not much of an incentive to come back. He should and will go.

For those questioning P-Rich's ability, how many wins would the Buffs have without him? Zero. He's the best WR we've had in a long time.
