Pride stickers

Pride stickers during the season?!

Watching Stanford I noticed the stickers on the back of their helmets.

I had been thinking about it for a while but it seems rare these days that a team has pride stickers.
I remember growing up (mid 90's) and I would see the pride stickers on the back of the CU helmets. I know they had them during the spring game, but did they have them during the games? I even have some from players that gave theirs me, Ben kelly, Ryan black, I can't think of who else.

It's almost the opposite of taking the names off of the back. It really encourages a player to take pride in their individual achievements. I played from middle school through highschool and one of my favorite things was earning and wearing the stickers.

Would you be for or against Embree using these during the season.
 
I've always thought the pride stickers were cool and I'd be all for them. Schools like UGA, FSU, and Ohio State among others are notorious for them. College GameDay did a piece on pride stickers around the middle of the season, it was pretty interesting.
 
I didn't like the answer for "no", so I went with "meh"... how would that seriously affect team play? I just think it would ruin the clean look of the helmets. I like how our helmets look, let's not ruin it with ****ing stickers.

i like the idea of them as long as they can be taken away as well. for example, a penalty after a TD for showboating. a penalty on a TD (otherwise) play. for a D player, a missed assignment that leads to a TD.

its gotta go both ways. it cant just be motivation to make a name for yourself. its gotta have some sort of team concept and when you hurt the team, you lose one too.

Plus they should be fairly difficult to earn. When they did the special about it on GameDay they were talking about some OSU player who earned something like 11 stickers in 1 game. Multiple stickers for one game is fine, but let's not get carried away.

yeah. it cant be for a pancake block or a juke move. it has to lead to points or a scoring drive by converting a 3rd and more than 10 or something. on D.... perhaps a drive killing sack, int or pass break up inside your own 50. providing no FG is made.

point being, its gotta matter in the outcome of the game.
 
I like em. I remember getting them when I played football and it always boosted my moral. I really liked the look to on the CU helmets, not sure why we got rid of them.

Also taking them away for showboating? Who gives a **** there 18-22 year old kids having a good time.

if the showboating makes you go from the 2 1/2 yard line to the 17 1/2 yard line when you need to make a 2 point conversion to win or tie the game... you are hurting the team. when it directly results in a change of field position, that impacts the team... ect. those penalties that come from showboating can impact the team and in a big way.

we can have a whole 'nother discussion on if the rules are fair on showboating in the NCAA. that is fine for another thread. what we have to deal with are the rules that are in place now. fair or not. they are in force now.

IMO, if you are going to do the sticker thing, allowing the kids to get and retain them, despite bad on field behavior and its effects on the team, makes them meaningless. you are better off not having them because its obvious that behavior that is detrimental to the team has no consiquence other than the penalty.

Agree with this. IMO helmets look retarded full of stickers. You ruin pimp looking helmets. I voted no, but for this reason, not "team play"

My comment was more directed towards the rules and I agree with you on that.

Oh and the OSU helmets with stickers look better.
 
I'm meh on it. If they mean something then ok. But there is nothing worse than seeing someone at UGA with 45 dog bones on their helmet in week 2.
 
To me the greatest compliment to a player comes in the team meetings where it really means someting in front of your peers. For the rest of us it is impossible to interpret one sticker from another.

If you have a plain helmet like tOSU, they kind of work. But with a logo on the side, they just get in the way of the look.
 
I'm not a big fan of the pride stickers where the goal is to accumulate a whole bunch. I don't like the look and I think they start to lose their meaning when players start getting so many. How important is it really when a player is awarded his 43 sticker?

What I do wish they would bring back is the Cheyenne Dog Soldier stickers. You didn't accumulate these, you only got to wear one on your helmet but it was like a badge of honor for being part of an elite club. I think they only gave them out to the D (in the beginning) and only if the player established himself in practice and in games as worthy of being a Dog Soldier. You had to earn the right to be a Dog Soldier and if you didn't perform you would lose it. I'd like to see a standard that recognizes and rewards excellence like that.

I tried to find a picture of the sticker CU used (back in the 90's) but I couldn't find one.

I think we used them during Barnett's regime as well. Hawk got rid of them... along with visors:bang:
