Mike Riley had that team so well-coached.

The defensive game plan with how they handled Spruce and dialed up pressure in spots was really good. And that defense tackles so well.

On offense, those 2 long drives in the 4th quarter were clinics. Mannion had one hell of a day. I thought the guy was a statue, but he made his biggest plays while taking hits or while being flushed. That was a talented senior QB playing at an extremely high level to beat us.

Anyway, I'm still pissed and still think the Buffs should have gotten a win on Saturday. However, I have a ton of respect for that Beaver program and something that got lost in all our frustration was a thread that gave credit where it's due. That was a good team that is well-coached, made key plays and played well to beat us on Saturday.

Mannion was the difference in the game IMO. Made several "wow" throws with a questionable wide receiving corps (the tight ends were fantastic though).

OSU may have the most fundamentally sound team in the conference.

Agree on the tight end play. We didn't seem to have an answer for it.

The two 30+ yard completions after avoiding the sack were great plays

Very classy post. Agreed. That guy can coach.

I do congratulate them on the win.

But I'm afraid I'm going to have to add Oregon State to my list of Pac 12 schools I don't like. (They beat us and I don't hate them like Nebraska.....but they stole a victory from us)

Here are the pac 12 schools I've grown to dislike or hate:

1. Arizona- basketball 3 pointer and the stolen victory!
2. arizona state- nasty and dirty players
3. Oregon- do I even need to comment?
4. sc- we have to hate them if this is going to he a rivalry
5. Washington (ever since neuheisel)
6. Cal-last week. How could you not hate them?
7. Utah
8. Oregon State- you don't come into Folsom and steal a win
9. UCLA- not really a team to hate but just due to Neuheisel, who actually is redeeming himself somewhat?

Stanford- meh.

And Who cares about Washington State?

Sorry, I'm a loyal Buff. Pac 12 fans are more fun than the Big 12. Most of the schools are fun to hate.

And props for the cheap shot by a fringe player that took one of our top defenders out of the game. Nice going oregon state.

Even more than the reffing, the cheap shot makes it hard for me to praise them in this game.

I hear you. That's why I focused on Riley and Mannion. On the cheap shot, Riley and his coaches didn't try at all to argue with the refs. That's rare and I appreciated that they saw it, agreed with it, accepted it and moved on. It really is the model coaching staff.

GEE, THAT WAS JUST INADVERTENT; JUST LIKE THE FLAG ON CRAWLEY AND THE NON-FLAG ON SPRUCE'S NON-RECEPTION....AND OH, NO HOLDING ON OSU ALL DAY...NOPE! NOT ONE....THOSE BLACK JERSEYS WERE JUST INADVERTENTLY STICKING TO OSU OL GLOVES...YEP! AND BOTH McCARTNEY AND GILBERT WERE ALWAYS STICKING THEIR ARMS AROUND THOSE POOR OSU LINEMEN....

KINDA HARD TO 'FINISH' WHEN ALL YOUR FINISHING PLAYS ARE F'eD UP BY SH*TTY CALLS OR NON-CALLS!!!!

Mannion did a lot to show NFL scouts what he can do under duress. We finally have young players like Tim Coleman who started to put pressure on a QB and Mannion found a way to get out of it despite not being very mobile.

Spruce is finally being respected enough to get that kind of defensive gameplan, negating our improved QB protection. Good to get our other receivers more involved. Tyler definitely made the most of the chances he got. Got to cut down on drops from every eligible receiver. Those and penalties made this a much different game than what we could have had.

Damn another beatable opponent for stealing a game from us. It gets monumentally harder from here.

Mannion was a flat stud. He made play after play. I don't think he had a bad throw all day. He will be making his living on Sundays. OSU didn't seem to have much at the WR position but they utilized their TE's very well.

Agreed on Riley. Plenty of respect for what he has built up there. He's the George Welsh of the Pac. Turned a disaster of a program into a near perennial winner.

Good team. One thing I noticed is that for the first time in a long time, we looked like the faster team.

That cheap shot probably gave them the game.

You can list a whole bunch of individual things, each of which could be said that if they hadn't happened we would have or more likely would have won.

The Crowley pick/PI
The non-PI against Spruce the following drive
Sefo's early pick
Adkins dropped pass
The cheap shot on Gillam

And a number of others.

This is what makes this game so frustrating yet provides optimism. We were any one of a number of things away from winning.

as much as i hate how that game went, I have much respect for Mannion and specifically Mike Riley. Mannion will be a solid if not a good NFL QB, but What Riley has done at OSU is nothing short of amazing, He is a great coach.

We are gonna curb stomp the Beavers next year. No Mannion = no chance.

Agree with all this.

Mannion didn't have a lot to work with and still managed to do what it took to win the game.

Riley's teams seem to always be prepared. They beat the teams they should and figure out how to beat some of the teams they shouldn't. They don't have great talent but they get the best out of what they have.

also i really wish we hand landed Sean Harlow... I mean really wish we had gotten him

That cheap shot on Addison was real classy...knocking out one of our defensive captains

Just saw the hit in the game replay. The OSU kid targeted Gillam's head the entire time. Eyes were on his target during the whole play.

This, this and this. Ridiculous and I'm finding it extremely hard that it wasn't intentional. Especially since Riley et al. didn't argue for their player. Completely changed the game as our defense looked out of position and lost for most of the game remaining. Daigh was out of position on almost every play. The second and third series he was in he looked better but still saying it was a big loss would be an understatement.

I hope Addison is ok. That was a vicious hit.

They went back to the locker room, did the concussion drills, and he was back on the side line the rest of the game. Coach seemed to think he was alright during the presser. I think he will alright especially with the bye week. He got up a bit wobbly but walked off a lot better than I remembered it looking during the game.

Problem with Daigh is that he is IMO a bit more of a Big-12/Big-10/SEC style LB. Meaning big, hard hitting, but not very quick. Just not as fast as Gillam and doesn't have the vision/coverage skills. He is pretty good in run protection, but not in passing situations.

Does OSU have any history of pulling something like this before? I too am questioning the 'coincidence' of which players were involved.
