QB Situation in 2014

Noone is going to supplant Sefo for starter. The question is who is going to be the backup. Rumor is Wood may not be on the team come Fall camp.

Gehrke has college experience and 1 year in the system so he would have to be next man up. Not sure about you guys but I don't think Apsay is going to be ready to play next year and aside from getting stronger and learning the offense, would be nice to regularly redshirt our FR QBs.

If Wood is not around next year that leaves us with 2 non redshirt scholly QBs. That is a little nervewracking, eh? Even if we get the AF transfer, he'd have to sit out next year. I guess that would help with scout team at least, and of course Apsay could be on the scout team too.

Amazing that a position of too much depth last spring is significantly lacking this spring.

No upperclassmen on the depth chart is disappointing. Burning Apsay's redshirt should not really be an option outside dire circumstances IMO.

How did the Florida qb who just transferred to BC get eligibility right away? Apply for some hardship or something? I'd say Gherke would be the backup since its looking like Wood is taking off.

5th yr. graduate transfer..

Some have suggested Awini may not have to sit since he got expelled/dismissed from AF, of course assuming he comes to CU, and further assuming he plays QB, and further assuming the NCAA grants a waiver...seems like no problem to me.

If Wood isn't back, I guess it is Sefo, then Gehrke, then Apsay or maybe Awini, given the above fulfilled assumptions. Funny how fast things can change.

Any more of those out there available? I can't imagine HCMM & Lindgren oars happy about going into the Spring with 2 scholly QBs

Michael Brewer from Texas Tech, he would actually have two years available like Webb. I'm not counting on us getting a transfer though.

Is it just a rumor about Wood? kinda would not blame him due to being supplanted by a freshman after playing at 2 different schools. Hope he does come back, I like Wood...

now, commence with the "liking wood" jokes.

Wood seems like a good kid and I wish him well whatever he does... but I'm not sure there's any advantage to having a backup QB who you know can't play in any meaningful game. Gehrke is the backup next year. It is what it is.

It doesn't take a genius when now 5, count them 5 QB's have left after the QB coach/OC came aboard. That has to be an all time record. That's only in 8 months. Makes sense to me there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Like good employees leaving after a new boss that's not liked or doesn't know what they are doing. Doesn't seem that much of a difference to me.

Sometimes a new boss comes in and realizes that none of the employees have the skill set necessary for his vision of the company.

Unless you offer up some more evidence, there's nothing to point to it being a bad boss and good employees leaving or a good boss cleaning house.

A problem like...bad players and a close grouping age wise. The depth we had wasn't exactly good depth, mostly bodies.

Folks, we have a new troll on the site. Perhaps Pac12 diehard is a hardcore fan of a bottom feeder at a lower level than us, could that be Cal perhaps?

I thought it was 4?

Nick Hirschman and Shane Dillon transferred out when they didn't win the starting job under the new staff in the spring.

Stevie Dorman transferred out after the season after younger QBs passed him on the depth chart.

Connor Wood decided to graduate in the spring instead of coming back for his 5th year as a backup.

Who is the 5th?

P.S. Didn't CU look like a program that needed a house cleaning to you? You weren't thinking we were super talented, were you? A true freshman middling recruit took over the starting QB job last season for chrissakes.

Damn he's right.

Stevie Joe Doorknob is a huge loss right now!
It's the coach's fault that a freshman clearly beat out Wood and now he is packing his bags.
And that guy Nick Hirschman who was behind Wood, well he transferred and look how well he did!
And I think John Schrock left the Buffs and is expected to be #1 at Alabama... (probably the 5th above)

Oh yeah, and then there's Shane Dillon, Embree's savior, who has to comb his hair left handed so his shoulder doesn't fall out of socket.

I forgot about Schrock. Our walk-on QBs usually change a bit every year with guys either showing enough to earn a scholarship at a small school or just deciding it's time to hang up the cleats. I wouldn't have thought a walk-on would have warranted a "count em 5" comment.

P.S. Schrock was actually ahead of Dorman on the depth chart but so far away from playing that he decided to just focus on his studies so he could become a doctor. Methinks that PAC12diehard be trollin'.

Clearly.

Not nervous, addition by subtraction. Hopefully Coach Mac has a walk on lined up. We need to throw a lot in Spring ball and get a lot of reps for the young receivers.
