The Buffaloes give up nearly 700 yards of total offense to the Wildcats.

Jayden de Laura threw for 484 yards and six touchdowns as Arizona pulled off a 43-20 rout of winless Colorado on Saturday night. It was Arizona’s first Pac-12 win of the season. Jacob Cowing caught 12 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown while Dorian Singer caught another score along with 163 yards on the night.

The Wildcats (3-2, 1-1 Pac-12) came into the game with a .500 record after a 49-31 loss to California. The third win on the season means the Cats beat Vegas projections of a 2-10 finish for 2022.

Colorado (0-5, 0-2 Pac-12) looked weak on both sides of the ball, highlighted by the Buffaloes defense allowing 673 yards of total offense. Freshman quarterback Owen McCown threw for 186 yards and a touchdown, but was a non-factor in the second half. The Buffaloes finished with a total of 19 first downs on ten drives. Anthony Hankerson finished with 12 carries for 68 yards with one of the three touchdowns for CU.

The air assault by de Laura was highlighted with completions to just five different receivers. The six touchdown throws by the Washington State transfer also tied an Arizona record.

Arizona led 26-13 going into halftime. CU tacked on a late TD run from McCown on the heels of a nine-play, 70-yard drive, but couldn’t match 17 second half points by UA. Not to mention, de Laura’s 273 yards and four touchdowns before halftime.

There will be a lot of pressure for CU to make changes with the bye week coming up but Buffs head coach Karl Dorrell doesn’t believe this was his final game.

“No, I’m not concerned about that,” Dorrell told reporters after the loss. “We’ve got to keep going, keep finding ways to get these guys to play better. We’re going to look at anything and everything.”

Colorado has failed to score more than 20 points in each of the past eight games.

UP NEXT:

Colorado takes a week off before welcoming California on Oct. 15. Arizona stays in Tucson to host No. 13 Oregon next week.
