Colorado’s gonna have some touchbacks next season.
After CU’s final game of the season against Oklahoma State, Coach Prime told the media that he would hit the transfer portal hard, especially at the kicker position.
“We’ll have touchbacks next season,” said Sanders. “I’ll promise you that.”
Prime stayed true to his word, snagging a commitment from former Louisiana Tech kicker Buck Buchanan early into the portal period.

With Buchanan in town, Colorado will indeed have more touchbacks next season. Buchanan was a preseason C-USA all-conference pick in 2024 with La Tech, where he made two 55+ yards field goals for the Bulldogs.
Where Buchanan excels is on the kickoff unit, as he had 51 touchbacks on 55 kicks last season. Those games were all played at or around sea level too, so expect Buchanan to have an easier time kicking through the back of the endzone in the thin mountain air up in Boulder.
Buchanan has one year of eligibility remaining, but it’ll be a near certainty that Colorado will use him as their placekicker unless something changes. We also could see Buchanan kick longer field goals for the Buffs when CU’s is bordering on spot kicker Alejandro Mata’s range.
Regardless of his role in 2025, Buchanan’s monster leg will prove to be a big asset for Colorado.
Welcome to Boulder, Buck! We’re excited to have you here! Now let’s kick some touchbacks!
