Colorado is beefing up in the trenches

Coach Prime and his staff aren’t done beefing up in the trenches for 2025, as they snagged a big commitment from former Texas State defensive tackle Tavian Coleman on Tuesday morning.

Standing at 6-foot-1, 300 pounds, Coleman instantly becomes one of the largest players on Colorado’s defensive line and profiles as a starter for the Buffaloes next season. The addition of Coleman immediately impacts Coach Prime and the Buffs going forward, who have been looking to plug some holes left at defensive line by players like Chidozie Nwankwo and BJ Green after declaring for the NFL Draft.

Coleman started his collegiate career playing junior college ball at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas in 2020 and 2021. After recording eight sacks, 92 tackles and 18 TFLs for the Cardinals in two seasons, Coleman transferred to Utah State in 2022. With the Aggies, Coleman only started in four games but still totaled 4.5 TFLs, a sack and a blocked kick.

Coleman’s tape stood out to incoming Texas State head coach G.J. Kinne, who brought him to San Marcos for the 2023 season. With the Bobcats, Coleman started in all 26 games he played in, tallying 54 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 12.5 TFLs, three forced fumbles and two blocked kicks.

Coleman is a beneficiary of the recent Diego Pavia ruling, granting former juco players an extra year of eligibility. Coleman comes to Boulder with one year to play one.

Welcome to Boulder, Tavian! We are glad to have you!
