We’ve officially got a QB competition in Boulder...

We officially have a quarterback competition on our hands in Boulder.

One month after bringing in five-star high school recruit Juju Lewis, Coach Prime wasn’t done bolstering at quarterback, snagging a big-time commitment from former Liberty star QB Kaidon Salter.

Salter is ranked as the fourth-best transfer portal quarterback by On3 and is a massive addition to the Buffaloes. In his four seasons at Liberty, Salter has established himself as an elite dual-threat quarterback, throwing for 5887 yards and 56 touchdowns and running for 2013 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Salter was elite in 2023, throwing for over 2876 yards and 36 touchdowns and running for 1089 yards and 12 touchdowns, leading the Flames to a 13-1 record and New Year’s Six bowl appearance, where they’d get crushed by Oregon and Bo Nix in the Fiesta Bowl.

Much like the entire Liberty team under Jamey Chadwell in 2024, Salter’s stats regressed this season. Salter’s stats were almost cut in half from 2023, throwing for only 1.8k yards and rushing for 500, so he’s hoping a new home will give him the spark to revert to his old ways.

Salter starting in Boulder is anything but a certainty though. He’ll have to battle it out with Lewis for the starting job throughout the spring and summer. Competition is always a good thing and Colorado now has plenty of options under center for 2025.

The Buffaloes have multiple successors to Shedeur Sanders lined up. Now, we just need to see what route they take. Will they pick the dual-threat option QB with elite speed on the ground or the QB with a cannon for an arm and pinpoint accuracy? We’ve got a fun offseason ahead, Buffs fans!

Welcome to Boulder, Kaidon! We’re so glad you’re here!
