Colorado drops first game of the season
Shawndarius Cowart had 19 points and Cameron Christon added 17 as Grambling knocked off Colorado 83-74 on Friday night.
The Tigers (2-0) took control of the game early and never let up on the way to their second ‘Power 5’ win in school history. For the Buffs (1-1), the first-ever non-conference loss against a SWAC opponent after 14 straight wins.
Cowart and Christon were two of four Grambling players in double-figures on the night. Terrence Lewis added 15 points off the bench, along with 14 from Carteare Gordon. Four points shy of a career-high for Cowart, who also chipped in seven rebounds and six assists.
Colorado never led and trailed by 14 points at halftime.
Buffs guard KJ Simpson led the team with 16 points in a losing effort. Nique Clifford finished with 15, along with 12 from J’Vonne Hadley. Another solid game off the bench for Jalen Gabbidon. The senior added 11 points in 19 minutes of work.
Colorado went 25-of-62 (40.3%) from the field and a lousy 5-of-21 (23.8%) from 3-point range against Grambling. Nine of Simpson’s 16 points came off 3-pointers, as he was 5-of-16 from the field.
