The long list of preseason accolades continues to grow for Travis Hunter.
Although slightly less impressive than all the college award watchlists he’s on, Hunter was ranked as the best player in all of college football by CBS Sports. The piece looked at the 151 best players across D1, and Hunter was one of three Buffs to make the list:
“A silky-smooth corner, Hunter is excellent in press coverage. In a Cover 2 scheme, he has the ability to undercut routes and make plays on the ball. Hunter has excellent hands and will sacrifice his body to make plays. He has fluid hips that allow him to trail his primary receiver, adjust to a ball thrown in his area and get involved for a PBU. Hunter shows an excellent ability to understand and match offensive patterns, as well as the make-up speed to catch up and make plays on a ball where he is slightly beaten. How will his two-way timeshare look this fall? And could it possibly continue in the NFL?”
Outside of Hunter, the Buffs had defensive lineman BJ Green come in at 129, and quaterback Shedeur Sanders at four. Here’s some of what they said about Sanders:
“Sanders is my current pick to go first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. He’s also, in my opinion, the best quarterback in college football entering the 2024 season. Sanders has an excellent arm to make all the throws necessary and is an extremely accurate passer both in the pocket and on the move. Sanders does a great job keeping his eyes downfield to go through his progressions and make the high percentage completion despite the constant pressure he was under all season.”
The best player in college football and two of the top four: not bad for a team predicted to finish 11th in the Big 12 this year.
