High School Basketball: McDonald’s All American Boy’s Game

Williams will compete for a roster spot at FIBA U19 World Cup.

Colorado Buffaloes freshman Cody Williams is on his way to representing USA Basketball this summer, as he was one of 35 players selected for the U19 Men’s National Team Training Camp.

The training camp will begin on June 11 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Williams will compete for one of twelve roster spots for the upcoming FIBA U19 World Cup, which will take place in Debrecen, Hungary from June 24 to July 2.

Williams is very likely to make the squad. He is a consensus top-10 high school recruit and a possible top-5 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. It also helps that Tad Boyle is the head coach of the U19 squad, although he will be harsher on Williams than any other coach on staff.

This isn’t quite the 2021 roster — where Chet Holmgren, Jaden Ivey and Kenneth Lofton Jr. faced Victor Wembanyama in the final — but the incoming freshman will be surrounded by top-30 recruits and talented sophomores. He might be the highest rated player there, but he has to work to make the team.

If Williams does make the squad, intense atmosphere in Hungary will be key to his development, especially if he’s the center of the offense and tasked with guarding the opponent’s best players.
