A big day for CU gets even bigger

Remember when we, as a nation, said that the Colorado Buffaloes need to get better up front? Watching UCLA, live at the Rose Bowl, get to Shedeur Sanders get sacked in 0.5 seconds leads a man to question what blocking even is in abstract terms. Well, after some offensive staff shake up and a new offensive line coach coming to Boulder, it appears the trenches are being addressed more than anyone could have hoped for.

One of the largest additions in every sense of the word is Tyler Johnson. The starting Houston guard came to the Cougars by way of Texas, where he was for three years. Due to COVID and redshirting, he had plenty of extra eligibility and transferred to Houston, where started for Houston in 2022 and 2023. As a guard in the AAC, he garnered plenty of postseason honors, but struggled like the rest of Dana Holgorsen’s squad when they made the jump to the Big 12 this year. Now, struggling for Johnson means an upper-level lineman, which is a nice change of pace from the 56 sacks that CU gave up this year.

Johnson is one of the best pass-blocking guards in the country and will immediately step into a guard spot in Boulder when he joins.

Welcome, Tyler!
