Sanders, Hunter and Edwards were all honored.

The Buffs’ 45-42 victory over seventeenth ranked TCU last weekend has earned the squad quite a bit of recognition throughout the nation. Colorado Football has been one of the most prevalent topics in sports media all week, and the Buffs were just ranked as the 22nd best team by the AP Coaches Poll. The recognition doesn’t end there though, as three Buffs received Pac-12 honors for their efforts against the Horned Frogs.

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was awarded Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week after leading the CU offense in an impressive performance. Sanders threw for four touchdown passes, a school record 510 passing yards, and no interceptions. The new Buffs’ quarterback completed over 80% of his passes and ended the game with a staggering 200.1 quarterback rating. This award is well earned, as Sanders has catapulted himself into first round draft projections after his dominant week one showing.

The Buffs two-way star Travis Hunter managed to bank the Pac-12’s Defensive Player of the Week award for his efforts at cornerback against TCU. Colorado’s new star had a red zone interception, two key pass breakups and a chase down tackle to prevent a TCU touchdown to keep the Buffs in the game. Hunter was flying all over the field in pass coverage at full speed despite playing a combined 120+ snaps on both sides of the ball. Seeing Hunter winning Defensive Player of the Week awards is great and all, but his cap is way higher than that. Buffs fans should keep their eyes on Hunter in the Heisman Trophy race all season.

The third Colorado player to win an award this week would be running back Dylan Edwards, as he took home the Pac-12’s Freshman of the Week award. The true freshman out of Kansas stole the show against the Horned Frogs. Edwards scored four touchdowns during last week’s game, which places him tied as the nation’s leader in scoring. The Buffs’ new running back is now the fourth player ever to score four touchdowns in their FBS debut.

CU managed to secure three out of the six awards handed out by the Pac-12 this week, and that’s something to be celebrated. However, it’s time to turn focus to next week’s big game. Nebraska comes to town for the first time since 2019, and any awards won against the Cornhuskers will be so much sweeter than those won this week. Hopefully the Buffs can keep this train rolling, and earn a couple more accolades next week too.
