The Buffs announce their leaders prior to the upcoming season

The Colorado Buffaloes announced their captains ahead of Friday’s non-conference opener against the TCU Horned Frogs (8 p.m./ TV:ESPN).

The four men who will be leading the Buffs will be seniors Terrance Lang, Quinn Perry and Brady Russell, as well as junior Casey Roddick. This renews the tradition of naming captains for the season, instead of week-by-week as established by former coach Mel Tucker.

Karl Dorrell named the four upperclassmen on Monday, chosen from a number of veteran players who have demonstrated leadership heading into this season.

Russell is the one returning captain from last season. The sixth-year tight end and legacy recruit came to CU from Fossil Ridge HS in Fort Collins as part of the 2017 class. The former walk-on is the only Colorado native to make the list of captains.

Lang was also part of the same class bound for Boulder by way of Pasadena that year, and is now the most experienced player in the Buffs’ defensive core. One of the only players to appear in over 40 games coming into the season, Lang is a great student of the game for newly-added defensive coach Gerald Chatman to mentor prior to his shot at the NFL.

Perry takes over for exiting Nate Landman as the leader in CU’s linebacking corps. The southern California JUCO transfer leveled up with a solid camp and continues to take steps towards strengthening his overall technique.

Roddick, the only offensive lineman on the short list, also hails from the Golden State. The 6-foot-4, 310 pounder comes into this season having started the final ten games of 2021 with a total of 565 snaps. Roddick has bounced back from a Covid health scare to be the rock in the middle of a strong OL.
