The Buffs have landed another stud big man.
Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Tad Boyle has just landed a late rising high school senior from the state of Texas.

This is a big win for the Buffs. Onwuchekwa has emerged as a legitimate recruit this past calendar year. The 6’10, 245-lbs. forward is still ranked 159th in the country, but it’s been a matter time before he rockets towards the top-100. He’s a physical presence on the inside, has a seven-foot-something wingspan and has a ton of skill to back it up.
The only issue has his weight, conditioning and effort level, but he’s transformed his body in the last couple years. He’s lost some 40-lbs. and looks much stronger and quicker than he did when the Buffs first began scouting him. He’s still big enough to back people down but that quickness shows up with his spin moves and jump hooks. He’s also has nice touch on his outside shot if you want to think about senior-year Evan Battey.
The DeSoto H.S. product chose the Buffs over schools like Mississippi State, TCU and Xavier. It’s going to be a fight for minutes as he competes with guys like Eddie Lampkin Jr., Assane Diop and Joel Hurlburt, but Boyle may go back to his two-big lineups if he has skilled and versatile bigs like Onwuchekwa.
Boyle is also recruiting Colorado’s top recruit Andrew Crawford, Slovenian forward Sebastian Rancik and combo guard Trent Perry, all of whom are in or near the top-100 in recruiting rankings.
