Could we see Colorado ranked in the coming weeks?
Sunday afternoon, the Associated Press released its weekly Top 25 poll, and Colorado received a vote. Yes, it’s just one vote, but it could be the start of something bigger for the Buffaloes. This singular vote may signal that national voters are beginning to turn the corner on Colorado’s legitimacy, especially after their dominant 48-21 victory over UCF. Now sitting at 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play, the Buffs are building a case for national attention.
Colorado’s win was a statement. The Buffs handled a UCF team that was favored by 14 points, exposing flaws in the Knights’ secondary, while making their own improvements in the run game and defensive secondary. Travis Hunter continues to look like a Heisman contender, Shedeur Sanders is lighting up defenses, and the team as a whole seems to be hitting its stride at just the right time.
The road ahead doesn’t get any easier. After this upcoming bye week, Colorado will host Kansas State on October 12th. A win over the Wildcats—currently ranked 20th—would almost certainly solidify the Buffs in the Top 25. Colorado will need to carry their momentum through the bye week to be ready for a tough Big 12 battle.
Whether it’s just one vote or more, the recognition is there and Colorado may be on the verge of something bigger. The media’s eyes will be on their next game to see if they can make their case for a permanent spot in the rankings.
