KJ Simpson simply can’t be stopped.

The Buffaloes wrapped up their non-conference slate with a dominant 98-71 victory over Utah Tech in Boulder on Thursday night.

The Buffs were in the driver’s seat for the entire game, as they zoomed out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back. Colorado held a commanding 20-point lead for what felt like the entirety of the game. The Trailblazers never stood a chance against Colorado’s elite defense, as the Buffs held them to a 44% shooting percentage from the field and only 30% from three.

As for Colorado’s shooting, the Buffs were on another level entirely. CU shot a clean 57% percent from the field and 50% from three. When this team makes their shots, it feels like nothing can stop them.

The Buffs’ offense in Tad Boyle’s dynamic five-out system allows players to get creative with their passing and off-ball movement. Colorado finished the game with 20 assists, further cementing this squad’s unselfish style. This team excels in sharing the rock and has proven they can make some difficult passes look easy. It’s also working nicely so far.

Colorado point guard KJ Simpson paved the way to the dominant victory, as he continued his stellar season. Simpson led the game with 23 points and went five of eight from deep for good measure. He also managed to snag six assists and six rebounds because why not. KJ is a legit star and one of the best point guards in the entire country. Pac-12 play is going to be very entertaining with Simpson on our side.

Luke O’Brien started in place of an injured Cody Williams and had another strong performance. O’Brien had one of his better games in Boulder, scoring a career-high 18 points. LOB finished the game shooting two of three from deep and only missed three shots entirely. It seems Colorado had finally found a legit 6th man off the bench with O’Brien playing this well. The Buffs are going to need O’Brien to keep up his current tear if they want to accomplish their goal of winning the Pac-12.

Speaking of the Pac-12, conference play starts next Friday when the Washington Huskies come to town. The Pac-12 hasn’t looked as long as usual, but it should be competitive every night. Buckle up everyone, we’re just getting to the meat of the season.
