Colorado is in the market for a new definsive line coach.
The Colorado Buffaloes are officially in the market for a new defensive line coach.
After one season with the Buffs, DL coach Damione Lewis has accepted a new position with the Miami Hurricanes. Lewis will be named the Cane’s new defensive tackles coach, working with Mario Cristobal and company.
Although Lewis’ new role with Miami is technically a demotion from the role he had in Boulder, it’s a homecoming. Lewis played his college ball with the Hurricanes and now will be coaching for his alma mater.
Lewis was a major reason for Colorado’s resurgence in the trenches in 2024. Last season, the Buffaloes led the Big 12 in sacks with 39 under the tutelage of Lewis. After losing defensive ends coach Vincent Dancy immediately after the Alamo Bowl, Coach Prime will have to reinvent his defensive line coaching staff.
Thankfully for the Buffs, they have a prime candidate waiting in the wings. NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp acted as an assistant DL coach for the Buffaloes in 2024 and could easily step into Lewis’ old role. Deion Sanders could also easily bring in an outside hire.
Whenever the DL coach position is filled, we’ll keep you updated here at Ralphie Report.
