RR Ralphie Report: Colorado finalizes OL coaching with familiar name

Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys

It’s 2001 again, someone get me Bobby Pesavento

THE 90S (read: the early 2000s) ARE BACK BABY. The Colorado Buffaloes, who are fresh off the second most successful season in 25 years, are retooling their staff. Deion Sanders is still in Boulder, but Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter are not. That alone makes this a new-look team next year.

Most of that change is on the offensive side of the ball. Last year, Phil Loadholt came in and took over a woeful OL unit and immediately retooled it. He’s now at Mississippi State, so the Buffs needed to make changes. Gunnar White and George Hegamin, who were in Boulder last year, were elevated to new OL coaching roles. But, I think most fans agree, that was not enough.

Enter Andre Gurode. Yes, THAT Andre Gurode.

Gurode was an All-Pro and a starring center in the NFL for years, where he played next to Hegamin. Before that, though, he was part of the best offensive line in Colorado history. 2001 was the last GREAT year for the Buffs, and that was due to the uglies up front. Gary Barnett turned that group loose and ran roughshod over the Big 12. Gurode was right there in the middle of the line, destroying Nebraska and Texas along the way. He most recently the OL coach for a few UFL/XFL teams, so he is fresh to the coaching institution. So was Deion Sanders once upon a time. I, for one, am happy to see him up in Boulder.
