Coach Prime is already patching the weak spots from 2024
Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders had himself a busy day on Tuesday. Along with speaking to the media ahead of CU’s appearance in the Valero Alamo Bowl, Prime landed some key commitments from the transfer portal to patch some weak spots from 2024.
One of those commitments was former Northwestern Missouri State tight end Zach Atkins, who will come to Boulder and make an instant impact on the roster.
Atkins’ arrival in Boulder is a welcome one, as Colorado was extremely shallow at tight end for all of the 2024 season. After Cincinnati transfer Chamon Metayer unexpectedly entered the transfer portal after only 10 practices with Colorado, the Buffs were put in a hard spot. CU ended up having to essentially forego the tight end position altogether, running almost exclusively four wide receiver sets all season.
With Atkins’ commitment to Colorado, that will almost certainly change. Atkins is one of the better tight ends in this portal cycle, ranking as the 12th-best TE in the 247 transfer rankings with a three-star transfer rating.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder can do anything you need him to: pass catch, block, you name it. He comes to Boulder with two years of eligibility remaining.
Welcome to Boulder, Zach! We’re glad to have you here!
