Coach Prime has a Christmas present for Colorado fans
Deion Sanders did his best Santa Claus impression on Christmas morning, as he delivered Colorado fans a surprise present: Florida State linebacker DJ Lundy. Coach Prime’s plundering of the transfer portal continues, as the addition of Lundy is a massive boost to Colorado’s linebacking core.
Lundy made a huge impact on the Seminoles’ defense, as he recorded 170 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in 43 games with FSU. The Buffs’ new linebacker played in all 13 games of the Seminoles’ undefeated season in 2023, where they won the ACC Championship but were controversially left out of the playoffs.
Lundy has your typical linebacker’s large frame, as he sits at 6 foot 1 in height and 244 pounds. During high school, he used his size and athleticism to become both a football and wrestling star. Lundy won championships in both sports, winning one 2A Georgia state championship in football and other three in wrestling. Lundy decided to turn his focus solely to football after going to college, where he cemented himself an elite run-stopper.
Despite his larger size, Lundy is agile and has a knack for quickly getting to the football. Lundy excels in finding the runner and plugging up holes made by the offensive line, so expect to see him on the field during most running downs on Colorado’s defense. Lundy will likely be more of a situational player on the Buffs’ defense in 2024, playing heavily on running downs and sitting out often on passing downs. The addition of Lundy is absolute huge for the defense, which was leaky against the run at times in 2023.
As an added bonus, Lundy will likely also play some fullback for Colorado’s offense. Lundy played fullback situationally during his time with the Noles, scoring two rushing touchdowns and one receiving. If the Buffs need to run somebody over in order to move the chains, Lundy might be our new go-to man for that.
Adding Lundy into the mix in Boulder instantly makes Colorado’s run defense so much better. Colorado now has yet another versatile athlete who can play on both sides of the ball (albeit situationally), which you can never get enough of. Lundy is easily of the defense’s biggest additions from the transfer portal and should fit right into the Buffs’ system.
Welcome to Boulder, DJ!
