NCAA Football: Colorado at Arizona State

Changes are coming to the Buffs’ offensive line.

The first domino has fallen in Colorado’s quest to build a new offensive line, as Buffaloes starting left tackle Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan has officially entered the transfer portal. Lichtenhan will be using his graduate transfer to leave Boulder and play elsewhere in 2024. It’s unsurprising that Lichtenhan is hitting the portal, after Coach Prime told media that the Buffs need to completely replace their offensive line after the Buffs’ loss to UCLA.

While Lichtenhan’s time in Boulder was short-lived, it was certainly eventful. Lichtenhan arrived in Boulder with a lot of hype and expectations, as he was the tallest player in Colorado football history at the time of his arrival. Lichtenhan quite played good in CU’s three non-conference games, earning himself Pac-12 Offensive Lineman of the Week honors after the Buffs’ win over Nebraska.

Things started to shift for the worst for Lichtenhan when conference play started. Colorado’s offensive line completely imploded and allowed the most sacks in the nation, which Lichtenhan played no small part in. Lichtenhan was benched during that UCLA game in which Shedeur Sanders took an absolute beating, but was eventually put back into the game after his replacements didn’t fare any better than he did.

It may not have worked out in Boulder for Lichtenhan, but that doesn’t mean he won’t succeed somewhere else. We’d like to wish Lichtenhan the best of luck going forward and thank him for the part he played in securing the Buffs’ win over the dreaded Cornhuskers. This news is just the beginning of Coach Prime’s efforts to reinvent Colorado’s offensive line. We’ll keep you updated as soon as other news breaks surrounding Colorado transfers.
