Oddsmakers predicting a rough year for Buffs

The hopes of the Colorado Buffaloes having a breakthrough 2022 football season are bleak, at least according to Vegas oddsmakers.

After a record number of players exited via the transfer portal, the Buffs have an uphill battle, as they are projected to win four games this season. CU’s conference championship outlook is near the bottom as well with odds at +25000, which is currently tied for dead-last with Arizona, according to MGMBet.

The Buffs are 8-10 over the past two years under head coach Karl Dorrell with an appearance in the Alamo Bowl in 2020. Overall, the projection of a four-win season falls in line with CU’s lackluster conference play in previous years. They have averaged a little over two Pac-12 wins each season since joining the league in 2011.

Colorado opens the season with a tough non-conference schedule (TCU, at AFA, at Minnesota) before kicking off their Pac-12 portion vs. UCLA on Sept. 24. Colorado hits the road twice in non-conference for the first time since 2011. It also marks the first-ever meeting between the Buffs and Horned Frogs, and is only the third season opener at home since 2009.

A majority of those years were spent at Mile High Stadium for the Rocky Mountain Showdown with CSU. The Friday night affair with TCU will be the 27th straight year that the Buffaloes will have at least one non-Saturday contest, according to CU athletics.

The Pac-12 Championship game is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 2, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

I have a very hard time finding 4 wins on this schedule. Basically we are depending on other teams having bigger issues than we have in order to get to that point. For instance, we need TCU to have some growing pains with the new coaching staff. We need ASU to be a train wreck. We need Cal and UW to be a train wreck. I don’t see four train wrecks on this schedule.
Welcome to our new reality. Enjoy the tailgates, because that’s the best part of the game.
