Colorado has lost their leading rusher from last season

Colorado running back Isaiah Augustave is no longer with the program, as reported by Scott Proctor of DNVR.

Augustave transferred to Colorado from Arkansas in Spring 2024 and made a substantial impact for the Buffs during their nine-win season, rushing for 384 yards and seven touchdowns, including a 91-yard, one-touchdown game against Cincinnati at home. Augustave was Colorado’s most effective running back by a wide margin, leading the team in total rushing yards and yards per carry, averaging a 4.5-yard pickup per attempt.

Augustave was not listed on Colorado’s spring roster when it was released on Wednesday morning, which led many fans to fear Augustave’s exit. Per Proctor’s report, their fears appear to be valid. Other players missing from the spring roster include DE Keaton Wade, TE Sam Hart and S Savion Riley.

The circumstances of Augustave’s departure are unclear. It is not currently known if Augustave has entered the transfer portal or was dismissed from the team. We do know that he has been absent from the team for some time, evidenced by the fact that he did not participate in Colorado’s first scrimmage of the spring practice period on Saturday. Other running backs, including Dallan Hayden, Charlie Offerdahl, Micah Welch and Brandon Hood, all took first-team reps during the scrimmage.

Regardless of the circumstances, the Buffaloes are now without their leading rusher from last season and presumptive RB1 headed into 2025. Although losing Augustave stings, don’t expect to see Colorado hit the portal as a reaction to his departure. Instead, expect Dallan Hayden, Micah Welch and redshirt freshman Brandon Hood to see an uptick in workload going forward.

We’ll provide further updates at Ralphie Report when more information about Augustave’s departure from the program becomes available.

The portal is out of control.

For the 2nd year in a row, CU WBB has only 4 squad members today. Dissatisfaction with the coach, the league, knowledge they will play more elsewhere?
I don't think so. It's just become a right of passage for many.Wbb

He didn't enter the portal, because it doesn't reopen until the 16th

Attrition always occurs, and the portal puts that on steroids. Keaton Wade is the guy that I really want to keep, but he is still listed on the Buffs roster (#27) in the article link. Sav Riley had some potential too. I think Sam Hart is either hurt or just beat out. Good luck to those guys. I'm not worried as I'm sure we will be adding quality guys as well.

I was bummed about this, thought he showed promise last season. Hopefully Welch continues to improve and/or maybe we see a resurgence out of Hayden. Also curious about Hood.

Sounds like he made a really bad decision(s). I find it doubtful that he would be welcomed back since he left the program early April at the latest. Does not look like he played Spring Ball, and whether he was in the weight room during CU's off-season is another question? Maybe he was rehabbing from injury, but if you don't get those reps or the weight-room reps you are just falling behind. Also, if you are not with the team, you are not with the team. CU is all about coming in and competing for a position and trying to be a family of sorts. He did not engage.

Frankly, I'm a fan and I don't care one way or another. He had some good plays last year and the RB room probably could use another body. However, if he is not anywhere close to in game shape it would be a total flier. With him leaving UVA, I presume he is not in shape/good form. That said, there could be upside/a nice story in giving him a 2nd chance, however he will not be RB1 come fall camp, rather probably RB5 carrying some Frosh's pads, until he is in the team's good graces. He would have to earn his way back.

Whether he is schollie worthy is a whole other question. If IA was willing to come back and risk his future without a schollie to play it out, it might be considered. This is gut check time for IA, either for CU or where-ever he lands.
