NCAA Basketball: Colorado at Oregon

The Schwartz has been with us all along

Another day in the paradise of Wichita, Kansas has yielded another dramatic win for the Colorado basketball alumni team. After playing and defeating two straight Sunflower State teams, they played the final boss of KU alumni basketball teams, Mass Street. Giant killer Frank Mason was suiting up for Mass Street, as were program legends like Thomas Robinson and the Lawson twins. Team Colorado, a mainstay of the Tournament, had precious little size and didn’t have a guard that could stay in front of Mason.

On paper, at least.

Andre Roberson revived his defensive form that dominated college basketball many moons ago and seemingly teleported into help position to cut off drives and block shots. Past that, any loose ball was his, and after watching his hustle to end defensive possessions, I’m sure Tad Boyle shed a tear from the nearest golf course. With key contributions from Jaizec Lottie (again) and Josh Adams, the Buffs held a narrow lead going into halftime.

The third quarter was a disaster for Team Colorado. Turnovers led to extra opportunities for a Mass Street team that was in an inferno, led by Sam Cunliffe from outside. However, things tightened up in the 4th quarter as the Buffs started to string some stops together. The Elam Ending (one of the coolest basketball ideas I’ve seen in a while) necessitated the winning team scoring 84, which led to tense moments down the stretch. After a messy possession, Schwartz came through again:

He keeps getting away with it! Team Colorado now travels down to Houston to face the Cougar alumni team in the semifinals. Once again, there is almost nothing better to watch during the summer. Have some fun with some forever Buffs!
