The Buffs are a big deal in Vegas

The Colorado Buffaloes and Deion Sanders haven’t even arrived in Las Vegas for Big 12 media day yet, but they’re already the talk of the town. Day one of the event at Allegiant Stadium was jam-packed with Big 12 head coaches singing the praises of what Coach Prime has done in Boulder.

Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire was the first to jump in and comment on Deion. The current Red Raiders head coach has some history with Sanders, dating back to his son’s time playing high school ball in Texas.

“I love Deion,” said McGuire. “I coached Bucky, his oldest son, in high school and he’s honestly the best dad of a player I’ve ever had.”

McGuire’s praise of Deion didn’t just stop at his parenting but also extended to the field of play.

“Colorado is going to be really good,” added McGuire. “They’ve added a lot of talent and they do have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation.”

Utah’s Kyle Whittingham also had kind words for Colorado’s superstar coach. While McGuire’s praise focused more on the Buffs’ on-field performance, Whitting opted to focus more on the off-field impact made by Coach Prime.

“Coach Sanders has done a great job infusing talent into that program,” Whittingham said. “Essentially, he’s put Colorado football back on the map.”

If any Big 12 coach was to know how far the Buffs have come in recent years, it’d be Whittingham. He witnessed “The Rise” in 2016 and the fall of the Karl Dorrell years during the Utes’ time in the Pac-12. Now, it’s a bit comforting to hear such an established coach say that the Buffs are back on the map.

Last but not least, Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy provided his version of a compliment to the Buffs and Deion.

“We’re lucky in our league that he’s with us because he brings so many people, notoriety, and viewers to the Big 12 Conference,” said Gundy. “That’s what makes it go. We need the viewership.”

Praise from Gundy isn’t something that comes around very often, but Deion and the Buffs were able to get some nice words out of him.

“It’s fun to have Colorado back in our league,” added Gundy.

The Buffs are about to get their first taste of Big 12 on Wednesday, issuing in a new era of Colorado football. Thankfully, it sounds like they’ve got some good conference mates on their side.
