Travis Hunter had himself a bye week
Travis Hunter, Colorado’s two-way superstar, just had what was perhaps the most legendary bye week in the history of College Football. With the Buffaloes out of action for the first week of November, Hunter had the opportunity to rest up, recoup, and relax a bit before CU’s pivotal matchup with Texas Tech on November 9th. Instead, Hunter decided to make history.
We all saw Hunter show up to State College, Pennsylvania to make a surprise appearance on College Gameday and Big Noon Kickoff, making history as the first ever current player to appear on the shows on their bye week. Hunter got airtime on both ESPN and Fox’s major pregame shows ahead of the Ohio State vs. Penn State matchup, holding a ‘Heisman’ flag to make his case at winning the trophy.

Taking a private jet to State College by itself would be a monumental bye week for any player, but Deion Sanders revealed that there’s much more to the story during his weekly Tuesday presser.
Sanders said that Hunter came down to his lake house in Texas on vacation. Hunter has been to “Lake Prime” before on bye weeks, bonding with his head coach over their love of fishing and the outdoors. Sanders took his opportunity to tell the media the hilarious story of how he found out his Heisman candidate was on College Gameday.
“The funny thing to me was that I just saw him. It had to be at 1:00 am in the morning,” said Sanders. “He was riding four-wheelers around the property.”
Sanders added that he could hear Hunter flying around his yard on his four-wheeler, engine revving and everything.
“I’m just hearing this thinking to myself ‘you better not fall off this darn four-wheeler,’” said Sanders. “The whole country is gonna be at my throat if you fall off this four-wheeler.”
Hunter’s four-wheeler escapades didn’t stop their either. When he stopped deer across the property, he did what any self-respecting man in his early 20s would do; chase after them.
“Then, I see deer flashing from one side of the property to the other,” said Sanders. “He’s chasing the deer, and I’m like ‘oh my god.’”
After Hunter got bored of the four-wheeler, so he went to the on-property shooting range. Following the shooting range, Sanders and Hunter rounds of the boardgame ‘Taboo’ and went to sleep around 2:00 am.
“Travis, I wake up and see him on television and just bust out laughing,” said Sanders. “Like you just left. When did you leave? I didn’t even know he was going to make the rounds that early.”
Having the energy to go chasing deer on a four-wheeler in Texas at 2:00 am to being on national television television in Pennsylvania a few hours later is something only Travis Hunter could do. He’s just as energetic off the field than he is on it, with a seemingly unlimited battery.
“I’m sitting over there thinking only Travis has that type of energy that he can go all day like that and go city-to-city,” said Sanders “I think he was in four different cities in one day. But he had a good time. He told me he had a wonderful time and I’m proud of him.”
